6.1.1 Enabling the Take node information task
In order to register node information collected by HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier into the asset management database, you must enable the Take node information task registered in the Windows Task Scheduler. By default, this task is disabled.
When the task is enabled, the default is that it is executed every Friday at 5:30 a.m.
For details about how to enable a task, see 5.9.2(1) Enabling a task.
When you specify in the Server Setup dialog box that the NNM button is to be displayed, the NNM selection name will be collected when node information is collected from HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier. Therefore, node information collection will take more time than when the NNM button is not displayed.
- Organization of this subsection
- (1) Notes on registering the node information of HP NNM version 7.5 or earlier
- (2) Method of determining the device type
The notes below apply to registering node information.
- If the service of HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier is not running when the task is executed, node information is not acquired.
- The node information acquired by HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier uses MAC address as the key value. Therefore, if the SNMP ifPhysAddr field of HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier that corresponds to MAC address is null, information for that object is not registered.
- If there is more than one device that corresponds to the information registered in the asset management database, the information for the device whose information is most recent is updated.
- If the information of the applicable device does not exist in the asset management database, asset information, hardware information, and network information are created.
In such a case, the asset number is generated automatically. Also, if the IP address can be collected, that IP address is allocated.
- Whether the existing information is updated varies depending on the device type.
The table below shows the differences in update processing depending on the device type registered in the asset management database and the device type acquired from HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier:
Device type of existing information |
Device type of collected information |
System device |
Network device |
System device (information collected from JP1/Software Distribution) |
Not updated |
N/A |
System device (other) |

- Legend:
- Updated: Information is updated; device type is also updated.
- Not updated: Information is not updated.
- N/A: Not applicable.
- Because HP NNM version 7.5 or earlier manages objects based on IP addresses, the same device might exist as multiple objects having the same MAC address. Furthermore, if a single device is displayed in multiple maps, it exists as multiple objects. When node information is imported into Asset Information Manager, devices are assigned based on MAC addresses. Consequently, what exists as multiple objects in HP NNM version 7.5 or earlier might become a single asset in Asset Information Manager. The IP address that is registered in HardwareInfo (hardware information) during this process is the IP address of the last object acquired from HP NNM version 7.5 or earlier.
When items are imported into Asset Information Manager, they are registered as described below according to the setting in Settings for a group that uses a group-specific IP group and Settings for a location that uses a location-specific IP group of the Server Setup dialog box.
- Do not set
Group or location is not set based on the IP address.
- To only set a group (or location) that has not been set
During new registration or when no value is registered in Group or Location of the asset information, Group and Location are registered according to the IP group.
When you select this setting, a single acquisition operation might result in both new registration and an update in some cases. In such a case, IP address is replaced with a value subsequently acquired, but Group and Location are registered using the initially acquired values.
- Set
Group and Location of the asset information are updated each time. However, note that they are not updated if the registered values have been acquired from the user inventory or have been registered from the New Device window or the Device Details dialog box.
If a single node acquisition operation assigns multiple objects to a single device, a message is output to the log file (ASTNNM1.LOG).
(2) Method of determining the device type
Information on PC, HUB, and Router device types can be collected from HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier. Other devices are registered as network devices. Even if more device types are added for collection by HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier, they will not be registered in the asset management database.
The device type of node information collected from HP NNM Version 7.5 or earlier is determined as explained below:
- If the field name isComputer in the node information is true, registration is with the device type PC.
- If the field names isConnector and isHub in the node information are true, registration is with the device type HUB.
- If the field names isConnector and isRouter in the node information are true, registration is with the device type Router.
