To link to JP1/Software Distribution, you must create a data source or net service in order to connect to the database used in JP1/Software Distribution. You must also re-create the data source or net service if you have changed Login ID or Service name in the Server Setup dialog box after creating the asset management database.
Before creating the data source or net service, you must use Asset Information Manager's Server Setup dialog box to specify the settings required during creation of the data source or net service. For details about the settings in the Server Setup dialog box, see 5.3 Setting up the asset management server.
The programs support the following databases:
- Asset Information Manager database#
Microsoft SQL Server, Embedded RDB, or Oracle
- JP1/Software Distribution database
Microsoft SQL Server, Embedded RDB, or Oracle
- #
- When a new asset management database is created, a data source or a net service is also created; therefore, there is no need to create a new data source or net service. If you have changed the value of Login ID or Service name in the Server Setup dialog box, create a data source or a net service.
- Notes on using a 64-bit OS
- When installing Asset Information Manager in a 64-bit OS and using Microsoft SQL Server or Embedded RDB for the database, use the following method to set up the database connection:
- From the Windows Start menu, choose Run. Specify %windir%\syswow64\odbcad32.exe and execute it.
Notes
- Before you start this procedure, stop all Asset Information Manager services, commands, and tasks.
- To stop Asset Information Manager services, stop the following services in the order indicated:
- World Wide Web Publishing Service or World Wide Web Publishing
- Asset Information Synchronous Service, Asset Information Manager commands, and tasks
- JP1/Client Security Control - Manager (when JP1/CSC is linked)
To run Asset Information Manager after having created a data source or net service, start the services in the reverse order of the order in which they were stopped.
- If a connection pool is set in an ODBC data source, the connected state continues after an Asset Information Manager job is stopped until the timeout time set in the connection pool expires. Therefore, wait for the connected state to be released before creating a data source or net service.
To connect to the asset management database and a linked product's database:
- Click the Start button and point to Programs, then Asset Information Manager, and then choose Setup.
The Setup dialog box appears.
- Click the Create Data Source/Net Service icon.
The Create Data Source/Net Service dialog box appears.
- From Products for connection, select the name of the database product to be connected and then click the Next button.
A dialog box for creating a data source or net service is displayed.
- Enter the required items and then click the OK button.
Details about the settings during data source or net service creation are provided for each DBMS in subsections 5.5.1 through 5.5.3.
The data source or net service is created and the asset management database and linked product's database can now be connected.
