To create a net service, specify information about the database to be connected.

The following shows the dialog box for creating a net service.

To return to the list of connection targets, click the Back button.

To create a net service:

1. In the dialog box for creating a net service, specify Server, SID, and Port number.
   The following describes each item in the dialog box.
   
   • Server
     Specifies the server name or IP address of the database to be connected. By default, this item is blank. The permitted value is 1 to 63 bytes of alphanumeric characters and %, ~, -, _, ., /, and \.
     
   • SID
     Specifies the name of the database to be connected. For Oracle8i, specify SID; for Oracle9i, specify the service name. The permitted value is 1 to 8 bytes of alphanumeric characters.
     
   • Port number
     Specifies the port number of the server of the database to be connected. Specify an integer from 1 to 65535. By default, 1521 is specified.
     
   • Net service name
     Displays the value specified in the Server Setup dialog box. This item cannot be changed. The displayed value depends on the product selected in Products for connection. The following table shows the items in the Server Setup dialog box that correspond to the selected product.

   • Connection user ID
     Displays the value specified in the Server Setup dialog box. This item cannot be changed. The displayed value depends on the product selected in Products for connection. The following table shows the items in the Server Setup dialog box that correspond to the selected product.

2. Click the OK button.
   The net service is created. When the net service creation is completed, a message to that effect is displayed.
   
3. Click the OK button.
   The dialog box for creating a net service closes and the list of connection targets is displayed again.
