(1) Prerequisite server programs
- OS
Use Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, or Windows 2000. If you use Windows Server 2008, Server Core installation is not supported.
When using a 64-bit OS, some work must be performed before installing and while setting up Asset Information Manager. For details about the pre-installation work, see 5.2.2(2) Pre-installation work; for details about the tasks to be performed during setup, see 5.5 Creating a data source or net service. In addition, if a program related to Asset Information Manager also uses a 64-bit OS, the functions available might be severely restricted. Therefore, make sure to check the manual of the related program for restrictions applicable when using a 64-bit OS.
- Web server
Use Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 7.0 or 7.5.
You must also install the Web service as a Windows component.
- DBMS
This program provides the operating environment for the asset management database. Supported databases include Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Oracle8i (R8.1.6, or R8.1.7) or Oracle9i (R9.0.1 or R9.2.0).
If you use Embedded RDB, there is no need to prepare a new DBMS environment.
- When the asset management server and the asset management database server run on different machines
For Oracle8i, use an Oracle8i client (R8.1.6, or R8.1.7).
For Oracle9i, use an Oracle9i client (R9.0.1 or R9.2.0).
For Microsoft SQL Server, use an ODBC driver (3.70.8.20 or later).
- When the asset management server and asset management database server run on the same machine
For Oracle8i, use Oracle8i Database Standard Edition (R8.1.6, or R8.1.7) or Oracle8i Enterprise Edition (R8.1.6, or R8.1.7).
For Oracle9i, use Oracle9i Database Standard Edition (R9.0.1 or R9.2.0) or Oracle9i Enterprise Edition (R9.0.1 or R9.2.0).
For Microsoft SQL Server, use Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
- Notes
- String comparisons performed in Asset Information Manager are case-sensitive. However, when using Microsoft SQL Server, the collating sequence of the database is used so you can also perform comparisons that are not case-sensitive.
(2) Prerequisite client programs
- OS
Use an OS (Windows) that supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later, Windows Internet Explorer 7, Windows Internet Explorer 8, or Windows Internet Explorer 9.
- Web browser
This is a client used for the asset management server to register and reference asset information. Use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later, Windows Internet Explorer 7, Windows Internet Explorer 8, or Windows Internet Explorer 9.
- Microsoft Office Web Components
To display graphs, you need Microsoft Office Web Components.
You can obtain Microsoft Office Web Components by installing Microsoft Office 2003 or earlier, or by downloading Microsoft Office Web Components from Microsoft's website.
(3) Prerequisite programs for using notification by email
To use the task scheduler function to automatically send information via email about contracts with approaching expiration dates and licenses that exceed the threshold value of the number of retained licenses, you need an environment in which Microsoft Windows Script Host Version 5.1 or later and Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 or later are both installed.
You must also install SMTP, which is a subcomponent of the Internet Information Service (IIS) Windows component.
For details about setting up email notification, see 5.10 Settings for using notification by email.
(4) Prerequisite programs for managing updates in linkage with the WSUS server
To manage the updates added to Microsoft Update in linkage with the WSUS server, you need a WSUS server environment and the Linkage with WSUS component.
- WSUS server
Prepare a WSUS server environment. For details about the necessary programs, see the Microsoft WSUS documentation.
- Linkage with WSUS component (required for linking to Asset Information Manager)
This is a component of Asset Information Manager.
Install this component on the WSUS server machine. When connecting to a hierarchical WSUS server, install the Linkage with WSUS component in the WSUS server at the highest hierarchy. To uninstall the Linkage with WSUS component, open Control Panel of the WSUS server machine and use Add or Remove Programs (or Add/Remove Programs).
(5) Prerequisite programs for acquiring inventory information
Asset Information Manager can upload to the asset management database inventory information acquired by JP1/Software Distribution.
If you are using Microsoft SQL Server, you must use Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
If you are using an Oracle database with JP1/Software Distribution, you must use Oracle8i (R8.1.7) or Oracle9i (R9.0.1 or R9.2.0). Also, set Database Character Set to WE8MSWIN1252.
For an overview of the JP1/Software Distribution functions, see the manual Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution Description and Planning Guide, for Windows systems.
(6) Prerequisite programs for distributing software
By linking JP1/Software Distribution, you can also distribute software programs to the devices that are searched by Asset Information Manager.
To distribute software by linking to JP1/Software Distribution, you need to link JP1/Software Distribution Manager 06-00 or later.
(7) Prerequisite programs for collecting operation logs
By linking to JP1/Software Distribution, you can collect operation logs.
When linking to JP1/Software Distribution to collect the operation logs of the management target client, the versions of the JP1/Software Distribution Manager and JP1/Software Distribution Client that can be linked differ depending on the job used.
The prerequisite programs for collecting operation logs by linking to JP1/Software Distribution are described below.
- Using the Operation Log List and Operation Log Total job menus to check the operation log
Use JP1/Software Distribution Manager 08-00 or later for the JP1/Software Distribution server.
To collect the following operation logs, however, you must use different versions of JP1/Software Distribution Manager:
- To collect operation logs for file operations (printing operations), Web access, and external media operations (connections and disconnections):
Use JP1/Software Distribution Manager version 08-50 or later.
- To collect operation logs for external media operations (connection permissions and connection suppressions):
Use JP1/Software Distribution Manager version 09-50 or later.
JP1/Software Distribution Client 07-50 or later must be installed on the management target client. To acquire file operation logs (folder or file operations), you need JP1/Software Distribution Client 08-00 or later. To acquire operation logs for file operations (printing operations), Web access, and external media operations (connections and disconnections), you need JP1/Software Distribution Client version 08-50 or later.
To acquire operation logs for external media operations (connection permissions and connection suppressions) and device type, you need JP1/Software Distribution Client version 09-50 or later.
- Using the Program Execution History and Window Title Update History job menus to check the program execution history and window title update history
Use JP1/Software Distribution Manager 07-50 or later for the JP1/Software Distribution server. Additionally, JP1/Software Distribution Client 07-50 or later must be installed in the management target client.
(8) Programs required for managing the software operating status
You can manage the software operating status by linking to JP1/Software Distribution.
To link to JP1/Software Distribution and manage the software operating status, use JP1/Software Distribution Manager 08-10 or later as the JP1/Software Distribution server. JP1/Software Distribution Client 08-10 or later must be installed on the managed client.
(9) Prerequisite programs for linking to Active Directory
Active Directory can be linked when it is running under the following OSs:
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows Server 2003 R2
- Windows Server 2003
Hitachi recommends that you operate the asset management server and the directory server on separate computers.
