8.5.3 Error with event source crypt32 and event ID 8 is output to the event log

For SSL transmission, it is possible to use a certificate (such as a self-signed certificate) issued by a verification authority that is not registered in the trusted root certificate authority. In such a case, an error with event source crypt32 and event ID 8 might be output to the event log if the auto-refresh of the certificate of the trusted root certificate authority is enabled on the client machine.

This error occurs because the client machine cannot communicate with the Microsoft Windows Update website during an attempt to automatically refresh the certificate of the trusted root certificate authority.

Perform one of the following:

  1. Make sure that the client machine can communicate with the Microsoft Windows Update website.
  2. Disable the auto-refresh for the certificate of the trusted root certificate authority.
For details about how to disable the auto-refresh for the certificate of the trusted root certificate authority, visit the Microsoft website.
