Appendix G. Glossary

cancellation time
The time it takes to force cancellation of an executed job that is not responding or has not terminated.

cluster system
A system configured with multiple server systems which work together so that job processing can continue if a failure occurs. If the active server (primary node) fails, the standby server (secondary node) takes over. Because the job processing is switched from the active to the standby node, the cluster system is also called a node switching system.
The term cluster system also means a load sharing system that performs parallel processing. However, this manual uses the term to indicate a system that switches between nodes to prevent interruption of job processing.

environment settings file
A file in which information necessary for JP1/AJS3 operation is set, such as the environments for scheduler services and job execution.

environment settings parameter
A parameter for defining the information required to operate JP1/AJS3, written in an environment settings file. With these parameters, you can specify the directory in which information about JP1/AJS3 units is stored, whether to output syslog messages, and other such preferences.

execution ID
A number allocated for each execution schedule in the uppermost jobnet.

job
A collection of commands, shell scripts, and Windows executable files.

job group
A folder for dividing and managing multiple operations.

jobnet
A collection of jobs related by order of execution. When a jobnet is executed, the jobs within it are automatically executed according to their execution order.

job network element
An element for the definition of a job network, called generally a unit.

JP1/Base
A program that provides event service functionality, and can control the start order of services as well as send and receive JP1 events. JP1/Base is a prerequisite for JP1/IM - Console, JP1/AJS3, and JP1/Power Monitor. When installed on a system that uses JP1/IM - Console and JP1/AJS3, JP1/Base provides functionality to control JP1 user operations.

JP1 user
A user name to be used for JP1/AJS3 or JP1/IM - Console. When JP1 users are registered with the authentication server, their access to management targets (resources) can be controlled.

nested jobnet
A jobnet defined within another jobnet.

normal termination
Normal termination of a jobnet occurs when all processes defined within the jobnet are executed correctly, and the jobnet terminates.
Normal termination of a job occurs when the job is executed correctly, and then terminates.

scheduler service
A service that manages schedules for jobnet execution, and that performs processing based on those schedules. Scheduler services manage units under the root job groups that have the same name, as the scheduler service.
Multiple scheduler services can run on one manager, enabling each scheduler service to manage a root job group. For example, when a scheduler service is run for each operation, each scheduler service can perform parallel execution (of jobnets and jobs) independently, without being affected by other scheduler services.

unit
A general term for a job network element.

work day
A day on which a jobnet operates.
