8.5.2 Re-executing a job

When you execute a job at multiple destinations, it may terminate normally at some destinations and result in a connection error or an error due to execution-wait status at other destinations. If the job does not terminate normally at a destination, you must re-execute it at that destination, but there is no need to re-execute it at all destinations.

The following describes the settings required to re-execute a job and the re-execution procedure.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Settings for re-executing a job that resulted in an error
(2) Re-executing a job that resulted in an error

(1) Settings for re-executing a job that resulted in an error

To re-execute a job, you must first complete the setup for logging job execution results in the managing server or relay manager/system.

(a) Re-executing a normal job

To re-execute a normal job (other than an ID group job or all-lower-clients job), you must set JP1/Software Distribution to manage execution results at the managing server. In the Log Options page of the Software Distribution Manager Setup dialog box, select the Record the results of jobs check box.

(b) Re-executing an ID group job

To re-execute an ID group job, you must set JP1/Software Distribution to manage client execution results at the relay manager/system managing the ID group.

(c) Re-executing an all-lower-clients job

To re-execute an all-lower-clients job, you must set JP1/Software Distribution to log the execution results of jobs intended for all clients at the relay manager. On the Log Options page of the Software Distribution Manager Setup dialog box, select the Record the results of each client executing all-lower-clients jobs check box.

(2) Re-executing a job that resulted in an error

You can specify on the Job Status window re-execution of a job at the destination where its execution-wait status or execution error occurred. You can specify multiple destinations for the job at the same time; however, you cannot re-execute more than one job at the same time.

To re-execute a job:

  1. Select the job to be re-executed.
To re-execute an ID group job, select the relay system managing the ID group. To re-execute an all-lower-clients job, select the all-lower-clients job or relay manager.
  2. In the Job Status window, from the Execute menu, choose Re-execute Job.
The Job Retry dialog box is displayed.

    [Figure]

    Job
Displays the name of the job for which the re-execution was requested. This information is also displayed when a relay manager, relay system, or client of the job is selected to request re-execution.
    Destination
Displays the relay manager, relay system, or client subject to re-execution. If you selected more than one destination in the Job Status window, only the first destination you selected is displayed.
    All relay systems and clients
This information is displayed when you selected the job to be re-executed from the Job Status window; it indicates that all relay managers, relay systems, and clients of the job are subject to re-execution.
Specify valid execution status of each client
Select the status of the relay managers, relay systems, and clients subject to re-execution.
    Waiting for transmission
Reissues the job receive request for the selected job to the relay managers, relay systems, and clients that were placed on execution-wait status.
    Temporary error
Prompts the relay manager/system or client to re-execute the job that caused a communication error or that the relay manager/system or client could not start. In the case of a job in which a temporary error occurred in a relay manager/system, the job for which re-execution is being requested is created in the RETRY_RELAY_SYSTEM folder. Re-executing a job in which a temporary error occurred does not change the status of the job; the status is changed only when the communication error is corrected. Note that repeating re-execution unnecessarily creates an additional re-execution request job.
    Error
Issues a request to extract only the requests resulting in an execution error and then re-execute them for the relay managers, relay systems, and clients.
  3. Choose Execute.
The job is re-executed according to the information specified here.
