2.5.11 Distributing a package in segments (split distribution)

Splitting a large package for distribution helps distribute the workload on a network. Because an interval (distribution interval) can be specified between transfer of the job segments of a split package, the network workload can be even further reduced. To implement split package distribution, select the Split package and then distribute check box on the Job Distribution Attributes page when you create a job.

If there is a relay manager/system (a relay manager or a relay system) in the package transfer route, the package split size and distribution interval change as follows:

The following figure shows an example of splitting a package and distributing it in segments.

[Figure]

If there is a relay manager/system on the package-distribution route, the relay manager/system must keep the clients active.

You can always cancel split distribution, transfer all untransmitted packages in the batch mode, and then complete the distribution by the normal distribution method. This is called forced completion of split distribution. A job that has been forcibly completed transfers packages unsplit in batch (normal) distribution from those systems to their distribution destinations. Note that the setting of Forcibly Complete Split Distribution is valid only while split packages are being distributed to all systems directly under the system that executed forced completion. Jobs that are suspended or being resumed cannot be forcibly completed.

You may want to forcibly complete split distribution for the relay managers/systems directly under the system that forcibly completes the split distribution, and then distribute split packages to the distribution destination systems under the relay managers/systems. If so, use a Transfer package to relay system job for the same packages. In such a case, split distribution to the relay managers/systems will be forcibly completed (normal distribution will be performed), and then split packages will be distributed to the distribution destination systems under the relay managers/systems.
