2.3.3 Settings on the Job Distribution Attributes page

You can do the following on the Job Distribution Attributes page:

This page is displayed only when the job type is one of the following:

You can select the job distribution method only for an Install package job. For Transfer package to relay system and Send package, allow client to choose jobs, Unicast distribution is selected by default and cannot be changed.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Distribution to suspended destination
(2) Distribution methods
(3) Split distribution settings

(1) Distribution to suspended destination

Specify whether or not a job is to be distributed to a suspended destination. The default is Do not distribute.

When the managing server or the system that is on the job execution route is suspended, file transfer for a job for which Do not distribute has been selected is suspended. However, file transfer for a job for which Distribute has been selected is not suspended even if the system is suspended. Such jobs are distributed ahead of suspended jobs.

When Distribute is selected, split distribution cannot be executed. Also, because a multicast distribution job cannot be suspended, the selection of whether or not to distribute to a suspended destination does not have an effect unless the method is switched to unicast distribution.

(2) Distribution methods

For an Install package job, you can select either Unicast distribution or Multicast distribution. The default is Unicast distribution.

In unicast distribution, packages are sent separately to each client from a higher system. Thus, the number of data packets to be sent from the higher system increases in proportion to the number of clients in the system. In multicast distribution, the higher system can distribute a job to a large number of designated clients by sending the packets for just one job. For the following types of jobs, multicasting reduces the amount of transfer data compared with unicast distribution:

If the job is to be sent to only a few destinations or if the package is small, using multicast distribution can actually reduce efficiency; you should select unicast distribution in such cases.

To enable multicasting, you must enter the appropriate settings on the Multicast Distribution page of the Setup dialog box of the higher system and of all clients.

You cannot use split distribution with multicasting. If you select Multicast distribution, the Split distribution settings fields (described below) are disabled.

(3) Split distribution settings

Specify whether or not a package is to be split. Select the Split package and then distribute check button to split the package into segments of a specified size. In Distribution interval, you can set the amount of time for a pause between transmissions, so that large packages can be distributed without putting pressure on the network.

Split size
Specify the size of each package segment. Each package is divided by the specified size, which is in the units you select (K or MB). The maximum split size is 2,097,151 KB. The default is 1 MB.
The managing server uses either the split size specified at the destination or the value specified on this page, whichever is smaller. This split size is applied to each package. If you are transferring multiple packages and the size of a package is less than the specified split size, that package is not split for distribution.

Distribution interval
When you use split distribution, you can specify an amount of time for a pause in transmission between package segments. The pause value can be from 1 minute to 24 hours. The default is 1 hour.
The actual length of the pause is based on the setting in the system whose split size is used. If the split sizes are the same, the managing server uses the value for the lower system and the pause value set for that system.

Notes
  • You can use split distribution for JP1/Software Distribution systems of version 06-00 or later. If a version that is earlier than 06-00 is also present, the distribution mode to that system will be normal distribution.
  • When you select Split package and then distribute, you cannot use multicast distribution.
