For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

5.4.2 Necessary IP addresses and port numbers

In order to employ a hot-standby configuration, you must acquire IP addresses. This subsection explains the targets to which IP addresses are to be assigned and the number of IP addresses. The following figure shows the targets to which IP addresses are to be assigned.

Figure 5‒2: Targets to which IP addresses are to be assigned (for model HA8000xN or later in the case where a management server is used as a failure management processor)

[Figure]

The following table describes the targets to which IP addresses are to be assigned, as shown in the figure, and the number of IP addresses to be specified.

Monitoring path

6

Per host

A monitoring path must be multiplexed. A maximum of six monitoring paths can be used.

A unique IP address and port number must be assigned to each monitoring path.

For details about the IP addresses, see (3) IP addresses to be assigned to multiple monitoring paths.

For a port number, specify 5001 or higher that is not used by the system. For a monitoring path that pairs the active and standby systems, specify the same port number.

For details about the IP addresses and host names when HA Monitor Extension is used to change the maximum number of hosts, also see 3.7.2 Changing the maximum number of hosts.

  • lan operand (host name) in the HA Monitor environment settings

  • lanport operand (service name) in the HA Monitor environment settings

  • netmask operand (netmask) in the HA Monitor environment settings

  • multicast_lan operand (host name) in the HA Monitor environment settings

  • /etc/hosts file (IP address, host name)

  • /etc/services file (port number, service name)

  • HA Monitor connection configuration file

2

Reset path#1

1

Per host

You must have a dedicated IP address and port number.

For the port number, specify the same number on each host in the range from 5001 to 65535 that is not in use.

If the system contains multiple hot-standby configurations that do not monitor each other and share the same reset path, you must specify settings carefully. For details, see (2) Notes about sharing a reset path among hot-standby configurations.

  • Reset path settings

(using the HA Monitor environment setup command (monsetup command))

3

Failure management processor#1

1

Per host

You need a dedicated IP address and port number.

For the IP address, specify the one having the same network address as for the reset path.

Specify the same IP address that is used for the reset path in a configuration that satisfies the following conditions: 1) the server model is HA8000xN or later, 2) a management server is not used as a failure management processor, and 3) HA Monitor and HA Monitor Option exist in the same OS.

For the port number, specify the same number on each host in the range from 5001 to 65535 that is not in use. Make sure that you specify a port number that is not used for the reset path.

4

LAN

0 or more

Per host

If servers use a LAN, at least one IP address is required. There is no limit. If no LAN is used, no IP address is needed.

  • OS settings

For details about how to specify OS settings, see the OS documentation.

5

Server

0 or more

Per server

If servers use a LAN, at least one IP address is required.

Specify an alias IP address. This value must be the same in both active and standby systems. For details about alias IP addresses, see (2) IP addresses to be assigned to the servers.

  • LAN status settings file

6

VMware ESXi#1, #2

1

Processor or housing

You need an IP address that can be used by HA Monitor and a port for SSH connection.

Set the IP address to be used by HA Monitor statically without using DHCP.

For the port number for SSH connection, 22 is assigned by default, but you can assign a different port number. If you assign a different port number, specify the port number for SSH connection in VMware ESXi for HA Monitor.

  • Reset path settings

(using the HA Monitor environment setup command (monsetup command))

#1: This setting is required in order to reset hosts. It cannot be specified when SCSI reservation for shared disk is used or the function for controlling hot standby based on the availability of LAN communications is used.

#2: This setting is required in order to reset hosts, and it is also required in a VMware ESXi-based virtualization configuration.
