For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

3.2.8 System operation linked with JP1

HA Monitor can be linked to a JP1 system to achieve central management of the systems in a hot-standby configuration. When changes occur in the systems in a hot-standby configuration in which HA Monitor is running, HA Monitor issues JP1 events. You can view the issued events by using a program such as the integrated JP1 management window.

If you link other application systems as well as the systems in the hot-standby configuration to a JP1 system, you can centrally manage operations in all the systems from the JP1 system.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Correctly using user commands and JP1 events

You can use JP1 events and HA Monitor's user commands to operate a system in which HA Monitor is running. You must use them correctly as appropriate to the purpose, as described below.

If you want to perform some processing or operation automatically when a message is output:

Use JP1 events. JP1 events are useful when there is no need to synchronize with a change in server status, such as turning on a patrol lamp in the event of an error.

JP1 events provide the following benefits:

  • Because JP1 events are issued when messages are issued, more JP1 events are issued than user commands.

  • There is no need for the user to create events because events that have already been prepared are used.

  • JP1 events provide more detailed information about failures than messages do.

For details about the event IDs of the JP1 events that are issued by HA Monitor, see A. Event IDs Used by HA Monitor.

If you want to perform some processing or operation automatically when the server or HA Monitor status changes:

Create user commands. When the server or HA Monitor status changes, HA Monitor issues a user command created by the user. User commands are issued when shared resources are started and terminated and when inheritance processing is performed. User commands are useful for automatically processing resources that are not supported by HA Monitor.

For details about user commands, see 3.5.2 Issuing commands when the server and HA Monitor status changes.

(2) Required environment settings

To run your system linked with a JP1 system, you must install the appropriate JP1 product and set up its environment. For HA Monitor to be able to link with a JP1 system, JP1/Base's physical host must be running on the host on which HA Monitor is running. You must start JP1/Base before you start HA Monitor.

Note also that you must specify the jp1_event operand in the HA Monitor environment settings.
