For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

7.2.2 Terminating

This subsection explains the system termination procedure and methods. When the system is to be terminated, the servers are terminated and then the kernel is shut down. HA Monitor terminates automatically when the kernel is shut down.

This subsection explains how to terminate the servers, the resource server, and HA Monitor.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Terminating the servers

You can terminate both active and standby servers with the following methods:

To terminate the standby server only, execute the standby server termination command (monsbystp command).

To verify that the server has terminated, execute the server and host status display command (monshow command).

To terminate a server in the monitor mode without creating a server termination command:

  1. Use the termination command provided by the program to terminate the server.

  2. Execute the monitor-mode server termination command (monend command).

(2) Terminating the resource server

HA Monitor terminates the resource server automatically when all servers using the resource server have terminated.

Occasionally, you might need to terminate the resource server for a reason such as a shared resource disconnection error.

To terminate the resource server manually:

  1. Check that all the servers using the resource server have terminated.

The resource server is connected to the shared resources during operation. Once the resource server is terminated, the servers using the resource server can no longer use its shared resources. To make sure that all the servers that have specified the resource server as their parent server have been terminated, execute the server and host status display command (monshow command).

  2. Terminate the resource server.

How the resource server is terminated depends on whether both the running resource server (in the active system) and the standby resource server (running in the standby system) or only the resource server on standby is to be terminated.

    • When terminating both the running and the standby resource servers

Execute the active resource server termination command (monresend command).

    • When terminating only the standby resource server

Execute the standby resource server termination command (monressbystp command).

(3) Terminating HA Monitor

You can terminate HA Monitor manually by executing the HA Monitor termination command (monstop command). After you have terminated HA Monitor, check that the KAMN050-I message indicating that HA Monitor has been terminated is displayed. Note that HA Monitor cannot be terminated while servers are running. You must first terminate the servers and then terminate HA Monitor. To verify that the servers have been terminated, use the server and host status display command (monshow command).

If you have set HA Monitor to terminate automatically, it terminates when the kernel is shut down. If the kernel is shut down while servers are running, HA Monitor forcibly terminates the active server on the active system and normally terminates the standby server on the standby system without performing hot standby processing. It is advisable to terminate the active server normally before you shut down the kernel. You can change the HA Monitor termination method by executing the HA Monitor environment setup command (monsetup command). For details about the HA Monitor environment setup command (monsetup command), see 9.22 monsetup (specifies HA Monitor environment settings) in 9. Commands.
