JP1 Version 13 JP1/Integrated Management 3 - Manager Overview and System Design Guide

3.5.7 Modes of applying system configuration information

When you add, change, or delete system configuration information on JP1/IM - Manager (Intelligent Integrated Management Base), you have to collect IM management node-related information and apply it to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base by using the facility for acquiring IM management node-related information and the facility for importing IM management node-related information, respectively. The time it takes to apply IM management node-related information to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base is proportional to the number of JP1 events registered in the integrated monitoring database. In other words, the larger the number of JP1 events registered in the integrated monitoring database, the longer it takes to apply IM management node-related information to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base.

The configuration change mode provided by JP1/IM - Manager (Intelligent Integrated Management Base) version 12-50 or later directly inherits both existing JP1 event information and mapping between JP1 events and IM management nodes. This saves the trouble of collecting JP1 events registered in the integrated monitoring database all over again and applying them to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base each time system configuration information is added, changed, or deleted. The use of this new mode of applying configuration information to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base helps you achieve a considerable reduction in the time it takes to add, change, or delete system configuration information compared to the conventional new and rebuilding mode.

The following figure shows an overview of the configuration change mode using the command procedure. Even if you use integrated operation viewer, you can select the import method. For details, see 2.2.2 List of Definition Files for Managers and List of Definition Files(host name) windows in the JP1/Integrated Management 3 - Manager GUI Reference.

Figure 3‒12: Overview of the configuration change mode

[Figure]

The configuration change mode works as follows. Based on mapping information that shows links between existing JP1 events and IM management nodes, the Intelligent Integrated Management Base maps IM management nodes to JP1 events according to the following rules:

For details about mapping methods, see 3.9.1 (1) Mapping JP1 events to IM management nodes.

If the configuration change mode is executed without the IM management node-related information ever being applied to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base, the system configuration information is applied to the Intelligent Integrated Management Base by using the conventional new and rebuilding mode.
