3.2 Format of message explanations

In this manual, the description of each basic log message consists of the following elements:

basic-log-message-ID, message-text, cause, and action

The meaning of each element is as follows:

Basic log message ID

The ID that identifies the basic log message. The alphabetic character at the end of the ID indicates the type of information reported by the message. One of the following types is output:

  • I (information)

  • W (warning)

  • E (error)

Message text

The body of the message that is output. For items that are enclosed by curly brackets ({ }) and separated by a vertical bar (|), only one of the items is output. Items that are enclosed by square brackets ([ ]) are output depending on the condition.

Cause

Describes the reason why the message was output, and the variables used in the message.

The instruction number in a message is a unique number assigned to identify the job process as a more fine-grained processing unit. Messages logged with the same instruction number pertain to the same process. For example, if a single job is used to distribute two packages, messages indicating job reception, success, and other events are output for each package. In this case, the job numbers in these messages are the same, but the instruction numbers are different for each package. To track the events for a specific package, see the messages that contain the instruction number for that package.

The maintenance code in a message is necessary only when the user inquires about the message. The user does not need to know the meaning of the maintenance code.

Action

Describes the action to be taken when the message is output. This element does not exist for messages that require no action.
