JP1 Version 12 JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Asset Console Configuration and Administration Guide

I.2 Applying asset information updated in Asset Console to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager

If groups of users or device locations are changed for a reason such as reconfiguration, you (the system administrator) must change all information about groups and locations. In this case, you can apply information set in Asset Console to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager to match their information.

This subsection describes how to update asset information in Asset Console and then apply the information to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager. By importing a CSV file, you can apply the following management items of asset information (necessary for device management in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager) updated in Asset Console to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager:

Organization of this subsection

(1) Procedure for updating asset information in Asset Console and then applying the information to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager

Note

In order to prevent unnecessary information from being applied, execute the following tasks in advance:

  • Acquisition of ITDM2 - Manager management information (Asset Console) task

  • Data maintenance (Asset Console) task

For details about how to set the tasks, see 7.9 Setting the tasks that are registered in Task Scheduler.

To update asset information in Asset Console and then apply the information to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager:

  1. Create a user report containing the asset information you want to update.

The user report created here can be reused for the same subsequent operation.

For details about how to create user reports, see 11.5 Adding windows for routine jobs (Create User Report).

  2. From the window of the user report created in step 1, download the CSV file.

  3. Edit the asset information in the downloaded CSV file.

For details about how to edit and update asset information by using a CSV file, see 16.10 Changing asset information in a batch operation (Import).

  4. Import the edited CSV file to Asset Console.

This completes the update of the asset information in Asset Console. Next, apply the updated asset information to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager.

If the definition of asset information is also changed (for example, groups are changed due to reorganization), perform steps 5 and 6. If the definition is not updated, you can skip steps 5 and 6.

  5. Based on the CSV file created in step 3, create an import file (CSV file) containing the definitions of shared management items and added management items.

For details about the import file containing the definitions of shared management items and added management items, see the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Administration Guide.

  6. Execute the ioassetsfieldutil import command on the management server to import the file created in step 5 to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager.

For details about the ioassetsfieldutil import command, see the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Administration Guide.

  7. In the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager window, run the Import Assets wizard.

For details about the Import Assets wizard, see the description of how to import hardware information in the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Administration Guide.

  8. In the Upload CSV file view, specify CSV File Name and Encoding, and then click the Next button.

In CSV File Name, specify the CSV file edited in step 3. In Encoding, specify the encoding of the CSV file output by Asset Console. The encoding of the CSV file output by Asset Console varies depending on an OS language of the asset management server.

    • OS language is Japanese: MS932

    • OS language is English: ASCII

    • OS language is Chinese: GBK

If the above encoding options do not appear in the Upload CSV file view, change the encoding of the CSV file to an encoding supported in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager by using a text editor before importing the CSV file from the operation window of JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager.

  9. In the Map Fields view, associate the items in the CSV file you edited in step 3 with the asset information items in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager. Then, click the Next button.

If you save a template that defines the association of items in the dialog box that appears, you no longer have to associate items from the next time you import a CSV file of the same format.

  10. Follow the instructions given by the wizard to import the CSV file.

This completes the application of the asset information updated in Asset Console to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager.

Tip

You can reuse the user report (created in step 1) and the template (created in step 9) for subsequent export and import of CSV files. Use the jamUserReport command of Asset Console to export CSV files, and use the ioutils importasset command of JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager to import CSV files.

For details about the jamUserReport command, see the example of execution from the command line in 11.5.13 Example of executing a user report. For details about the ioutils importasset command, see the command descriptions in the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Administration Guide.

(2) Example of settings to update Group and Location information, and CSV file output example

The following provides an example of user report settings to update (for reasons of reorganization) Group and Location information in Asset Console and JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager. A CSV file output example is also provided.
