JP1 Version 12 JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Distribution Function Administration Guide

15.3.1 Checking log files

JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager acquires log data for each event that occurred. Users can check the following two types of logs:

  1. Windows event log

  2. MAIN.LOG file

Use the Windows Event Viewer to check the Windows event log. Use a text editor to check the MAIN.LOG file, which is stored in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager-installation-directory\mgr\log. The following describes each log file.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Checking the Windows event log

You can use the Event Viewer to check the event log data acquired while using JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager.

In the Log menu of the Event Viewer, you can select Select Computer to check events of other hosts running Windows. For details about how to use the Event Viewer, see the Windows documentation or Help.

Numbers (event IDs) displayed in the event column in the Event Viewer are equivalent to message IDs. The following describes the meanings of the numbers.

Table 15‒1: Event IDs and their meanings (for JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager)

Event ID

Description

0 to 999

Windows interface-related

1000 to 1999

TCP/IP-related

7000 to 7999

Installation-related

In the Event Viewer window, double-click an event to display a detailed description of that event. For example, if a system error occurred due to insufficient disk space on the managing server, relay system, or management relay server, a message indicating insufficient disk space is output to the Event Viewer system log. In this case, free up enough disk space by, for example, deleting unnecessary files, and then retry the operation.

Depending on the event, memory dump information might be output in event details. If you contact us about JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 errors, also please provide us with this memory dump information also.

For details about event log messages output by JP1/IT Desktop Management 2, see the manual JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Messages.

(2) Checking the MAIN.LOG file
