9.2.1 Processing data on the managed computer before remote collection

It might be a good practice to process data on the managed computer before the data is collected by remote collection and used on the managing server. For example, if the database on the server is updated according to the data processed by each computer, and the programs on the server must be able to interpret the data from the managed computers, the data must be processed. It might be possible to process data after it is collected into the server by remote collection. However, any attempt to process a large amount of data sent from each computer at the same time will impose a heavy load on the server.

In this case, it is convenient to use a function that starts an external program immediately before remote collection. Operations such as the example shown above can be handled by specifying a data processing program as an external program (to be started immediately before remote collection).

The following figure illustrates the remote collection of data processed by managed computers.

Use the Detailed Options For Remote Collection dialog box to specify the external program to be started immediately before or after remote collection. This dialog box is displayed by clicking the Details button on the Collect File page of the Create Job dialog box.
