JP1 Version 12 JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Distribution Function Administration Guide

3.1.1 Network environment for distribution function

JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 exclusively uses the TCP/IP protocol for network communication. As such, it does not depend on a specific network operating system such as Windows Server. You can also use JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 in environments where multiple network operating systems coexist with communication programs (TCP/IP protocol stacks) on managed computers.

You can use WINS or DNS to manage host names. However, we do not recommend that you design a system in which a single name server manages the host names of every computer. In such a system, name resolution queries are concentrated on a single name server, resulting in significantly lower system performance. In this scenario, using a hosts file to manage names places a lesser burden on the network.

Note:

When you control the network bandwidth used for distributions using Remote Install Manager, if multiple computers whose settings of controlling the data flow are different are designated to distribution destinations and jobs are executed simultaneously, it might take a long time to complete the jobs regardless of the settings of controlling the data flow. To complete the jobs in time according to the settings of controlling the data flow, designate only computers whose settings of controlling the data flow are same to distribution destinations and execute the jobs.
