1.1.3 Installation conditions that can be set during packaging
To install software remotely, you need to specify all the information required for its installation when you package the software. This might include the date and time of installation, the installation timing, and prerequisite programs. This information is called the installation conditions.
You can set installation conditions in the JP1/ITDM2 Packaging dialog box. You can also change the conditions in the Change Installation Conditions dialog box during remote installation (at the job creation stage).
The following describes the installation conditions you can set on each page of the JP1/ITDM2 Packaging dialog box. For details about these settings, see 7.2 Specifying package details.
- Organization of this subsection
(1) System Conditions
On this page, you can specify hardware requirements, such as the minimum hard disk space required for installation and the memory requirements of the software. For example, you might specify the condition that there must be 10 to 20 MB of free space available after installation. By specifying the amount of installed memory as a condition, you can also prevent situations in which the software fails to work after installation due to a lack of memory.
(2) Software Conditions
If the software you are installing requires a specific version of a particular software program to be installed, you can specify version information on this page that allows the system to confirm the presence of the prerequisite program. You can also specify a condition that remote installation is to be executed only if certain other software is not installed on the computer.
(3) Package Conditions
If the package you are installing requires a specific version of a particular package to be installed, you can specify version information on this page that allows the system to confirm the presence of the required package. You can also specify a condition that remote installation is to be executed only if a certain package is not installed on the computer.
(4) File Properties
On this page, you can specify the access permissions and ownership of files after remote installation.
(5) Schedule
You can specify the date and time for installation, and the execution timing of the installation. There are three types of execution timing:
-
The package is installed when the job is executed, or at the specified installation date and time.
-
The package is installed the next time the computer starts.
-
The package is installed when the computer stops. This type is valid only when the destination is an agent for UNIX.
(6) Installation Method
On this page, you can specify an installation mode (the installation method appropriate for the software installer). There are two installation modes:
-
Specify this mode when the software uses a special installer (such as an interactive installer). When the package type is Hitachi program products or Other companies' software, the installation method is always set to GUI installation mode.
-
Use this mode when the installation process does not involve a special installer, and can be completed simply by copying files.
(7) Options
On this page, you can specify the following options for remote installation:
-
Compress package data
Use this option to compress packaged software. A compressed package can be transferred more quickly and occupies less space in the cabinet. However, packaging and remote installation will take longer due to the time required to compress and decompress the package.
-
Restore old version when upgrade failed
You can use the backup/restore function to protect the previous version of software in case the remote installation process fails. When you use this function, JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Agent makes a backup copy of the previous version when it upgrades a program by remote installation. If remote installation fails, the previous version of the program is restored from the backup.
-
Restart computer after installation
When you select this option, the computer will restart automatically after the package is installed.
-
Display processing message
Use this option to specify whether to display processing dialog boxes on the target computer while the package is being installed. This applies to dialog boxes indicating that downloading or installation is in progress.
(8) External Program
You can execute an external program on the target computer immediately before or after installation, or in the event of an installation error. This allows you to:
-
Start an external program before installation that assesses whether the computer meets certain user-specific conditions
-
Use an external program to start the installed program product
