13.2.4 Troubleshooting related to alarm definitions
This section describes the procedures for handling problems in the alarm definitions of Performance Management.
- Organization of this subsection
(1) The program defined for action execution does not function correctly
The possible cause and action to be taken are as follows:
-
PFM - Manager or the Action Handler service at the target host is not active
If PFM - Manager or the Action Handler service at the target host is inactive, actions cannot be executed. To execute actions, make sure that PFM - Manager and the Action Handler service at the target host are active.
(2) An alarm event is not displayed
The possible cause and action to be taken are as follows:
-
PFM - Manager is not active.
If PFM - Manager is inactive, the system cannot issue alarm events from PFM - Agents correctly. To monitor alarm events, make sure that PFM - Manager is active.
(3) An alarm threshold is exceeded, but the alarm icon remains in green in Display Alarm Status in the Agents tree
The possible causes, and actions to take, are as follows:
-
Alarm tables using the Japanese language are bound in an environment where the LANG environment variables are not set to Japanese on both PFM - Manager and PFM - Agent hosts.
In this case, alarms using the Japanese language are not evaluated successfully. Set the LANG environment variables to Japanese on both PFM - Manager and PFM - Agent hosts. To determine the LANG environment variable settings, check the common message logs to see whether the most recent service start messages are issued in Japanese or English.
If the PFM - Manager host is running in an English-language environment and its language setting is changed to Japanese, the existing alarm definitions become garbled and can no longer be deleted. Therefore, be sure to perform the following procedure:
-
If you need alarm tables using definitions in the Japanese language, export all of them from PFM - Web Console.
Not that the jpctool alarm export command cannot be used to export the tables.
-
Delete all alarm tables using definitions in the Japanese language.
-
Stop PFM - Manager service.
-
Change the LANG environment variable setting to Japanese on the PFM - Manager host.
-
Start PFM - Manager service.
-
If you have exported the alarm tables in step 1, use PFM - Web Console or the jpctool alarm import command to import the alarm tables.
-
For other notes about an environment where both Japanese and English languages are used, see the chapter describing notes about environments in which the Japanese and English languages are intermixed in the JP1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide.
