4.1.3 Installation procedures

This subsection describes the order of installing Performance Management programs on hosts, and the procedure to install programs from the distribution media.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Program installation steps

Note:

For Performance Management programs, you can install monitoring manager, monitoring console server, and monitoring agent in any order.

(a) Steps to install the monitoring manager

Install PFM - Manager on the monitoring manager.

[Figure]

(b) Steps to install the monitoring console server

Install PFM - Web Console on the monitoring console server.

[Figure]

(c) Steps to install the monitoring agent

First Install PFM - Base and then install PFM - Agent or PFM - RM. You cannot install PFM - Agent or PFM - RM on a host that does not have PFM - Base installed.

If you install PFM - Agent or PFM - RM and PFM - Manager on the same host, install PFM - Manager first, and then PFM - Agent or PFM - RM.

For details about the installation procedure, see the appropriate PFM - Agent or PFM - RM manual.

(2) Installing Performance Management programs

There are two ways to install Performance Management programs. One method is to install the programs from the distribution media, and the other is to remotely install the programs by using JP1/Software Distribution. For details about how to use Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution, see the manual Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution Administrator's Guide Volume 1 (for Windows systems).

Important

If the User Account Control (UAC) function is enabled, the User Account Control dialog box might appear during installation. If this dialog box appears, click the Continue button to continue the installation. If you click the Cancel button, the installation is aborted.

To install programs from the distribution media:

  1. Log on with Administrators permissions to the host on which you intend to install the program.

  2. Stop all Performance Management services that might be running on the local host.

The services that need to be stopped are any Performance Management services running on the physical and logical hosts. For details about how to stop services, see the chapter that explains how to start and stop Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

  3. Load the distribution media and run the installer.

Follow the instructions provided by the installer after starting up.

Define the following information for installation:

    • User information

Enter a user name and an organization name.

    • Installation folder

Specify the folder in which you intend to install the programs.

An installation folder is created when you specify a folder in the the Change Current Destination Folder dialog box and click the OK button. If you inadvertently create the wrong folder, delete the folder after the installation has finished.

    • Settings for the connection destination PFM - Manager host (during a new installation of PFM - Base)

Enter the host name of the PFM - Manager host for the connection destination when you perform a new installation of PFM - Base.

You do not have to set PFM - Manager for the connection destination during installation. You can set it later. If you do not set PFM - Manager for the connection destination during installation, the physical host name of the PFM - Agent host or PFM - RM host is used. After the installation, change PFM - Manager for the connection destination. For details about changing PFM - Manager for the connection destination, see 4.3.2 Changing the PFM - Manager for the connection destination.

      Important

In this procedure, only one host name can be specified. If you want to create a multiple-monitoring configuration, do not specify the host name of PFM - Manager for the connection destination during installation. After you complete installing the Performance Management programs, change PFM - Manager for the connection destination.

  4. Click the Install button to start installation.

    Note

The Performance Management program installation folder can be specified only when the Performance Management programs (except for PFM - Web Console) are installed for the first time on a host. Thereafter, the Performance Management programs are installed on the folder specified during the initial installation.

Additionally, you can set PFM - Manager for the connection destination only when PFM - Base is first installed on a host without PFM - Agent 08-00 or earlier. If you install PFM - Base on a host that has version 08-00 or earlier of PFM - Agent installed, or if you perform an overwrite installation of PFM - Base, the existing settings of PFM - Manager for the connection destination are inherited.

For details about how to check the version number of an installed product, see Appendix E. Checking Version Information.
