In JP1/IM - Manager version 10-10, the Options page is laid out differently and the Checks for suppression to continue and Processing for when suppression continues areas do not appear.

The following describes the items displayed on the Options page.

Conditions for same attribute values

Use this area to specify duplicate attribute value conditions as repeated event conditions.

From the drop-down list, select an attribute that you want to add to a selected duplicate attribute value condition to designate it as a repeated event condition. By default, no duplicate attribute value conditions are assigned to the repeated event condition.

Add

When you click the Add button, the selected duplicate attribute value condition is added to the end of the Attribute name list. This list displays duplicate attribute value conditions that have been set as repeated event conditions. This list can display a maximum of three duplicate attribute value conditions. When three duplicate attribute value conditions are displayed, the Add button is disabled. If you select Extended attribute (common information/specific information) in the drop-down list and then click the Add button, the Extended Attribute (Common Information/Specific Information) Settings window opens. For details about this window, see 3.18 Extended Attribute (Common Information/Specific Information) Settings window.

Delete

If one or more duplicate attribute value conditions are selected in the Attribute name list, the Delete button is enabled. When this button is clicked, the selected duplicate attribute value conditions are deleted.

Threshold

Specify the threshold values for repeated event conditions. The Enable check box is cleared by default.

Enable

Select this check box to set a threshold.

If this check box is selected, the x events and y seconds boxes are enabled.

x events

Specify the number of events that occur within the specified length of time. You can specify a number from 1 to 200. This text box is blank by default.

y seconds

Specify the number of seconds as the length of time in which the number of events that occur will be monitored. You can specify a number from 1 to 60. This text box is blank by default.

End monitoring period

Specify the end monitoring period for repeated event conditions. You can specify a value from 1 to 86,400 seconds. The default is 300 seconds.

Suppression start event

If you want a suppression start event to be issued, select the Issue check box. When you select this check box, the system issues a suppression start event (event ID: 00003F58) reporting that suppression has started. If you do not want a suppression start event to be issued, clear the check box. This check box is cleared by default.

Suppression end event

If you want a suppression end event to be issued, select the Issue check box. When you select this check box, the system issues a suppression end event (event ID: 00003F59) reporting that suppression has ended. If you do not want a suppression end event to be issued, clear the check box. This check box is cleared by default.

Checks for suppression to continue

In this area, specify whether you want JP1/IM - Manager to check if monitoring is still being suppressed for repeated events at an interval defined as a length of time (in seconds) or number of events. You can also specify whether you want JP1/IM - Manager to cancel suppression or issue a JP1 notification event if it determines that monitoring is still being suppressed.

Specify these items in conjunction with the items in the Processing for when suppression continues area.

This area does not appear in version 10-10 of JP1/IM - Manager.

Enable

Select this check box to have JP1/IM - Manager check whether monitoring is still being suppressed for repeated events. Clear the check box if you do not want JP1/IM - Manager to perform this check. When you select this check box, the items under Timing of checks to decide whether suppression will continue and in the Processing for when suppression continues area become available. This check box is cleared by default.

Timing of checks to decide whether suppression will continue

Select how you want JP1/IM - Manager to determine when to check whether monitoring is still being suppressed for repeated events. When you select Time or Number of events, the text box associated with that option becomes available. The following table shows the differences between these options:

Table 3‒15: Differences between timing options

Selected option

When checks for continued suppression take place

Time

After suppression of events that match the repeated event condition you are editing starts, JP1/IM - Manager checks whether suppression is ongoing each time the number of seconds specified in the text box elapses. For example, if you select Time and enter 3600 in the text box, the system makes the determination every 3,600 seconds (that is, once an hour).

Number of events

After suppression of events that match the repeated event condition you are editing starts, each time JP1/IM - Manager collects the specified number of those events, JP1/IM - Manager checks whether monitoring of the event is still being suppressed. For example, if you select Number of events and enter 100 in the text box, the system makes the determination after every 100 events that match the repeated event condition.

In the Time text box, you can specify a value from 1 to 86,400 (seconds). In the Number of events text box, you can specify a value from 1 to 1,000,000. By default, the Time option is selected and the text box is empty.

For details on the timing of checks to determine whether suppression is ongoing in situations where no threshold is set for the repeated event condition, see 4.4.7 Issuing notifications when the suppression of repeated-event display continues in the JP1/Integrated Management 2 - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

For details on the timing of these checks when a threshold is set for the repeated event condition, see 4.5.7 Issuing notifications when the suppression of monitoring of a large number of events continues in the JP1/Integrated Management 2 - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

Processing for when suppression continues

Use this area to specify how JP1/IM - Manager behaves when it determines that monitoring is still being suppressed for repeated events after the specified time (number of seconds) or number of events. JP1/IM - Manager can issue a JP1 event to notify the user, or cancel suppression for the repeated event.

This area becomes available when you select the Enable check box in the Checks for suppression to continue area. Specify these items in conjunction with the items in the Checks for suppression to continue area.

This area does not appear in JP1/IM - Manager version 10-10.

Actions to take when suppression continues

Select the processing that you want to occur when JP1/IM - Manager determines that the suppression of repeated events is ongoing. You can select Issue an event to notify that suppression will continue or Terminate suppression. The following table shows the differences between these options.

Table 3‒16: Differences between processing options

Selected option

Processing when suppression has continued

Issue an event to notify that suppression will continue

If JP1/IM - Manager determines that suppression is ongoing for events that match the repeated event condition you are editing, it issues a notification event for continued suppression (event ID: 00003F65). For example, suppose that you specify every 100 events as the Timing of checks to decide whether suppression will continue in the Checks for suppression to continue area. In this case, the notification event is issued each time JP1/IM - Manager collects 100 events that match the repeated event condition you are editing.

Terminate suppression

JP1/IM - Manager cancels suppression upon determining that suppression is ongoing for events that match the repeated event condition you are editing. For example, suppose that you configure JP1/IM - Manager to check whether suppression is still in progress every 3,600 seconds (hourly) in Timing of checks to decide whether suppression will continue in the Checks for suppression to continue area. In this case, JP1/IM - Manager will cancel suppression if it has collected an event that matches the repeated event condition you are editing in the 3,600 seconds after suppression began. When you select Terminate suppression, the Issue an event to notify that suppression will be terminated check box becomes available. If you select this check box, JP1/IM- Manager will issue an event notifying that suppression is canceled (event ID: 00003F60).

By default, Issue an event to notify that suppression will continue is selected.
