JP1 Version 12 JP1/Automatic Job Management System 3 - Print Option Description and User's Guide

10.5.2 Collecting dump files

This section describes how to collect information equivalent to memory dumps and crash dumps#.

#

You cannot use the data collection tool to collect crash dumps in these operating systems. Instead of a crash dump, collect the following information:

  • User dumps

  • Problem reports

Organization of this subsection

(1) Collecting memory dumps

When a STOP error occurs in Windows, the memory contents are dumped to a file which you can then collect. First, you need to configure Windows to output a memory dump when an error occurs. For details, see 10.5.1(1) Configuring memory dump output. Dump files are output to the path you specify.

(2) Collecting user dumps

When an application error causes a JP1/AJS3 - Print Option process to stop, an error dialog box appears. You can then collect a user dump by performing the actions below.

Cautionary note:

If you close the error dialog box, you will no longer be able to collect a user dump. If you inadvertently close the error dialog box before collecting the user dump (by clicking the OK button accidentally, for example), reproduce the error and collect the user dump with the error dialog box on screen.

  1. Start Task Manager.

You can start Task Manager by performing one of the following actions:

    • Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then select Task Manager.

    • Press the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC keys.

  2. Click the Processes tab in Task Manager.

  3. Right-click the name of the JP1/AJS3 - Print Option process that was stopped by the application error, and choose Create Dump File.

  4. A dialog box appears indicating the output destination for the user dump. You can then collect the user dump from that folder.

(3) Collecting problem reports

You can use problem reports to identify problems on a host, and find out how best to resolve them. When an application error causes the JP1/AJS3 - Print Option process to stop, collect a problem report by following the procedure below:

  1. Enter wercon in the Run dialog box and click the OK button.

The Problem Reports and Solutions dialog box appears.

  2. In the left side of the dialog box, click View problem history.

A list of problem histories appears.

  3. Double-click the problem for which you want to collect a problem report.

    A detailed problem report appears.

  4. Click Copy to clipboard.

  5. Paste the copied report into a text editor or similar, and then save the file.

You can now use the saved report to help troubleshoot the problem.
