Command syntax conventions
The following table describes the notation used in explanations of command syntax:
Symbol |
Description |
---|---|
| (vertical bar) |
A delimiter between items in command syntax, representing an OR operand. Example: A|B|C in the command syntax indicates that you can specify A, B, or C. |
{ } |
You must specify one of the items enclosed in these brackets. Items are delimited by vertical bars. Example: {A|B|C} in the command syntax indicates that you can specify either A, B, or C. |
[ ] |
The item or items enclosed in brackets are optional. When multiple items are listed, choose one or omit all.
|
... |
The item or items preceding the ellipsis (...) can be repeated.
|
_ (underline) |
The underlined characters are the system default when you omit all the items enclosed in brackets. If there is no default, only the specified items take effect.
