JP1 Version 12 JP1/Automatic Job Management System 3 Operator's Guide

9.14.1 Performing release entry for jobnets

To perform release entry for a jobnet:

  1. In the JP1/AJS3 - View window, in Function Menu, click Release Entry.

    Release Entry is now selected.

  2. In the tree area, click the job group that manages the release-source jobnet.

The job group you clicked is now selected.

The subordinate root jobnets appear in the list area.

  3. Click the release source jobnet, and then choose Operations and then Release Entry.

The Register for Release dialog box appears.

  4. Enter the required information for release entry.

    Cautionary notes

Any temporary changes that you make to the jobnet before performing a release entry will not apply to execution schedules after the release date.

To check whether any temporary changes have been registered, click the Browse button. The Temporary Changes dialog box appears. Look through the list of temporary change information for any changes to the release-source jobnet.

If you want to apply a temporary change set before the release entry to execution schedules after the release date, select the Open the Temporary Changes list check box. When you finish the release entry, the Temporary Changes dialog box will open automatically and you can re-execute the change.

  5. Click the OK button.

The Register for Release box closes.

The definition of the jobnet you selected in step 3 is registered in the release-target jobnet, and the release status becomes Release wait.

Cautionary notes
  • You can specify only a root jobnet as the release source.

  • You cannot specify the following jobnets as the release source:

    - Jobnet that is already specified as a release target

    - Suspended jobnet

    - Jobnet being edited

    - Jobnet on which another user is performing operations

    - A jobnet for which at least two of the following are defined: a jobnet connector, a connection-destination jobnet, or a start condition (.CONDITION)

    - Jobnet for which a remote jobnet was defined

  • You cannot specify the following jobnets as the release target:

    - Suspended jobnet

    - Jobnet whose status is Shutdown

    - Jobnet being edited

    - Jobnet on which another user is performing operations#

    - A jobnet for which at least two of the following are defined: a jobnet connector, a connection-destination jobnet, or a start condition (.CONDITION)

    - Jobnet for which a remote jobnet was defined

    #

If the other user's operation is to set or to release the hold attribute for units of a jobnet that is being applied, you can specify the jobnet as the release target.

  • A jobnet whose schedule is later than the release date and that has been registered for fixed execution with either a period or a date specified cannot be specified as a release target. In such cases, cancel the registration or prohibit the execution of schedules after the release date, and then register the jobnet-definition release. Note, however, that if a number of future generations is also specified for the jobnet registered for fixed execution, you can register a jobnet-definition release even when the schedule of the jobnet is later than the release date.

  • If you want to change the definition of a jobnet whose release status is Release wait, cancel the release, change the definition, and then perform release entry. If you do not have enough time to cancel the release or to re-do release entry, or if you want to change the definition whose status is Being applied, suspend the jobnet and then change the definition.

  • An error might occur if you do not perform release entry at least one day before the release date. When you perform release entry, make sure that you do so well in advance.

  • Performing release entry significantly increases system load. When you perform release entry, try to avoid times when the system is busy executing jobs.

  • If the upper-level unit-attribute inheritance function has been set for the jobnet specified as the release target, the function will determine the owner and JP1 resource group set for the jobnet.

  • If release entry fails, the jobnet definition remains in the Release entry wait status and release entry is not performed. To prevent this problem, after you perform release entry, check whether the release status of the released jobnet definition changes from Release entry wait to Being applied or Release wait. If release entry fails and a definition remains in the Release entry wait status, cancel the release to delete the definition.

  • After performing release entry, if you use the ajslocaldate command to move the local date and time of the scheduler service to a date and time in the past, or you change the system time to an earlier time, use a command such as ajsdelete to delete the release-target jobnet before making the change.

If you change to an earlier time without deleting the release-target jobnet, release entry might not work correctly. In this case, undo the time changes you made, delete the release-target jobnet, and then change the time again.

Note that to recover the release-target jobnet, you will need to have taken a backup of the definition information for the intended release-target jobnet prior to release entry.

  • You can restore a deleted release-target jobnet from backup definition information created by a command such as ajsprint for the intended release-target jobnet prior to release entry. After using a command such as ajsdefine to re-define the definition information of the backed-up jobnet, you can restore the release-target jobnet by performing release entry with the release source specified.
