JP1 Version 12 JP1/Navigation Platform Setup and Operations Guide

5.2.1 Backup frequency and the data to be backed up

As a guideline, we recommend that you back up the data described below once a month. Evaluate the frequency of acquiring backups according to your operations.

  1. Data related to system settings (such as property files)

  2. Data for Operational Contents

  3. Static files used for Operational Contents

You can acquire all data 1 through 3 by executing the npdatabackup command (back up the environment). You can acquire only data 2 by executing the npexport command (export Operational Contents).

Our guideline is that you acquire backups once a month. Evaluate the frequency of acquiring backups according to your operations. If you use user authentication, back up user information for the authentication server as needed.

Tip

Determine whether the npdatabackup command or the npexport command is to be used by taking into account the restoration operation.

  • To restore data that has been backed up by the npdatabackup command, use the npdatarestore command (restore environment). Careful planning is required in terms of when to execute these commands because the system must be stopped in order to execute the npdatabackup and npdatarestore commands.

  • The npdatarestore command can be used if the data version is the same between backup and restoration. Note that this command cannot be used during version upgrade processing.

  • To restore Operational Content data that has been backed up by the npexport command, use the npimport command (import Operational Contents). The npexport and npimport commands are easier to use than the npdatabackup and npdatarestore commands because the former can be executed while the system is running.

  • You can also make all backups by using the npdatabackup command and then use the npimport command to restore only the Operational Contents later. For details, see 5.2.8 Restoring only Operational Contents.
