JP1 Version 11 JP1/Performance Management - Agent Option for Service Response Description, User's Guide and Reference

3.1.4 PFM - Agent for Service Response setup procedure

This subsection describes the setup that is required before you can use PFM - Agent for Service Response.

[Figure] indicates a setup item whose requirement depends on the environment being used, or an optional setup item when you wish to change a default setting.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Setting the language environment

Windows has several locations for setting the language environment. The setting must be the same for all of them.

For details about how to set the language environment, see the section describing how to set the language environment in the JP1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide.

(2) Registering PFM - Agent for Service Response[Figure]

To use PFM - Manager and PFM - Web Console for centralized management of PFM - Agents, PFM - Agent for Service Response must be registered into PFM - Manager and PFM - Web Console. You must register PFM - Agent for Service Response in the following cases:

When the version of PFM - Manager is 09-00 and later, you do not need to perform the procedure explained here, because PFM - Agent is automatically registered.

Note, however, that PFM - Agent or PFM - RM that is released later than PFM - Manager might require manual registration. For details about whether manual registration is necessary, see the Release Notes for PFM - Manager.

The following figure shows the procedure for registering PFM - Agent for Service Response.

Figure 3‒4: Procedure for registering PFM - Agent for Service Response

[Figure]

Note:
  • If you are adding the same version of PFM - Agent for Service Response to a Performance Management system in which information about PFM - Agent for Service Response has already been registered, there is no need to register the PFM - Agent.

  • If you install a different version of PFM - Agent for Service Response on a separate host, set up the old version first and then the new version.

  • If you have installed PFM - Agent on the same host as PFM - Manager, the jpcconf agent setup command executes automatically and the message KAVE05908-I New agent setup ended successfully is output to the common message log. Check the results, and if the command did not execute correctly, re-execute it. For details about executing commands, see the chapter that describes commands in the manual JP1/Performance Management Reference.

(a) Copying the PFM - Agent for Service Responsesetup files

Copy the setup files from the host where PFM - Agent for Service Response was installed to the host where PFM - Manager and PFM - Web Console were installed.

To copy the setup files:

  1. Stop PFM - Web Console if it is running.

  2. Copy the PFM - Agent for Service Response setup files in the binary mode.

The table below shows the source and target locations of the files to be copied.

Table 3‒2: Setup files to be copied

(b) Executing the setup command on the PFM - Manager host

To use PFM - Manager to set up PFM - Agent for Service Response, execute the following command:

jpcconf agent setup -key SR

Although the above example shows interactive execution, you can also execute the jpcconf agent setup command non-interactively. For details about the jpcconf agent setup command, see the chapter that explains the commands in the manual JP1/Performance Management Reference.

Note:

An error may occur if the jpcconf agent setup (jpcagtsetup) command is executed on a local host where Performance Management programs and services have not stopped completely. If an error occurs, make sure that all Performance Management programs and services have stopped completely, and then re-execute the jpcconf agent setup command.

After completing this step, you may delete the PFM - Agent for Service Response setup files from the PFM - Manager host.

(c) Executing the setup command on the PFM - Web Console host

To use PFM - Web Console to set up PFM - Agent for Service Response, execute the following command:

jpcwagtsetup

After completing this step, you may delete the PFM - Agent setup files from the PFM - Web Console host.

(3) Setting up a network [Figure]

You must specify network settings only when you change the network configuration where Performance Management is used.

The following two network items can be set:

(4) Changing the log file size [Figure]

Performance Management's operating status is output to a log file unique to Performance Management. This log is called the common message log; it consists of two files with a default size of 2,048 kilobytes each. This setting is required only when you wish to change this file size.

For details, see the chapter that describes installation and setup in the JP1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide.

(5) Changing the performance data storage destination [Figure]

These settings are required only when you wish to change the storage location, backup folder, export folder, or import folder for the database that stores the performance data managed by PFM - Agent for Service Response.

The default storage locations for the performance data are as follows:

For details, see 3.4.1 Changing the performance data storage destination.

(6) Setting up PFM - Manager for the connection target of PFM - Agent for Service Response

On the host where PFM - Agent for Service Response is installed, you must specify the PFM - Manager that is to manage that PFM - Agent for Service Response. This PFM - Manager is called the connection-target PFM - Manager, and you use the jpcconf mgrhost define command to set it.

Notes:
  • There can be only one PFM - Manager as the connection destination for a PFM - Agent for Service Response, even when multiple PFM - Agents are installed on the same host. A different PFM - Manager cannot be specified for each PFM - Agent.

  • If PFM - Agent for Service Response and PFM - Manager are installed on the same host, the PFM - Manager that is on the local host is automatically the connection-target PFM - Manager. You cannot change the connection-target PFM - Manager to some other PFM - Manager.

To specify the connection-target PFM - Manager:

  1. Stop all Performance Management programs and services.

Before you start the setup procedure, you must terminate all Performance Management programs and services that are running on the local host. For details about stopping services, see the chapter that describes starting and stopping Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

If a Performance Management program or service remains active during execution of the jpcconf mgrhost define command, a message is displayed that asks you to terminate the program.

  2. Execute the jpcconf mgrhost define command with the host name of the connection-target PFM - Manager specified.

For example, if the connection-target PFM - Manager is on host host01, specify the command as follows:

    jpcconf mgrhost define -host host01

Although the above example shows interactive execution, you can also execute the jpcconf mgrhost define command non-interactively. For details about the jpcconf mgrhost define command, see the chapter that explains the commands in the manual JP1/Performance Management Reference.

(7) Setting up the action log [Figure]

You can log information in the action log when, for example, PFM services start and stop, and the status of the connection to PFM - Manager changes. The action log stores history information that is output in conjunction with the alarms for thresholds related to system load and other conditions.

For details about how to set up the action log, see I. Outputting Action Log Data.

(8) Setting up the start options for PFM - Agent for Service Response

At the host where PFM - Agent for Service Response is installed, you must set start options, such as the maximum number of measurement conditions for a probe and the maximum size of a report file.

You set the start options for PFM - Agent for Service Response by editing the Probe action condition definition file. For details about the Probe action condition definition file, see 8.2 Probe action condition definition file (esp.conf).

(9) Setting up the Web Recorder action conditions [Figure]

To use Web Recorder to define Web transactions, you must set action conditions for the Web Recorder at the host where PFM - Agent for Service Response is installed.

You define Web Recorder action conditions by editing the Web Recorder action condition definition file. For details about the Web Recorder action condition definition file, see 8.4 Web Recorder action condition definition file (wr.conf).

(10) Setting up the IE Recorder action conditions [Figure]

To use IE Recorder to define IE scenarios, you must set action conditions for the IE Recorder on the host where PFM - Agent for Service Response is installed.

You define IE Recorder action conditions by editing the IE Recorder action condition definition file. For details about the IE Recorder action condition definition file, see 8.8 IE Recorder action condition definition file (jpcvierec.conf).
