9.2.4 Troubleshooting problems with alarm definitions
This subsection describes how to handle problems that are related to alarm definitions.
- Organization of this subsection
(1) The program defined for action execution does not function correctly
The following describes a possible cause and the resolution.
-
PFM - Manager or the Action Handler service at the target host is not running.
Actions cannot be executed when PFM - Manager or the Action Handler service at the target host is inactive. To execute actions, make sure that PFM - Manager and the Action Handler service are running at the target host.
(2) An alarm event is not displayed
The following describes a possible cause and the resolution.
-
PFM - Manager is not running.
When PFM - Manager is inactive, the system cannot issue alarm events from PFM - RM for Platform correctly. To monitor alarm events, make sure that PFM - Manager is running.
(3) Even though the alarm threshold has been exceeded, the color of the alarm icon displayed in the Display Alarm Status window of Agents remains green
Possible causes of this problem, and the corrective step to take, are shown below:
-
An alarm table that uses Japanese was bound in an environment where the LANG environment variable of the PFM - Manager host and the PFM - RM host is not set to Japanese
In this case, alarms that use Japanese are not correctly evaluated. Set the LANG environment variable of the PFM - Manager host and the PFM - RM host to Japanese. You can check the setting of the LANG environment variable by checking the common message log to see whether the latest service startup message is output in Japanese or English.
If the PFM - Manager host uses an English environment, changing it to a Japanese environment while the current setting is in effect will corrupt the existing alarm definitions, making them undeletable. Therefore, take the following steps:
-
If you need alarm tables that use Japanese in the alarm definitions, export all of them from PFM - Web Console.
For exporting, you cannot use the jpctool alarm export command.
For details about how to export alarm tables, see the chapter that describes exporting of alarm tables in the Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management User's Guide.
-
Delete all alarm tables that use Japanese in the alarm definitions.
-
Stop PFM - Manager.
-
Change the LANG environment variable of PFM - Manager host to Japanese.
-
Start PFM - Manager.
-
If you exported alarm tables in step 1, use PFM - Web Console or the jpctool alarm import command to import the alarm tables.
For details about how to import alarm tables, see the chapter that describes importing of alarm tables in the Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management User's Guide.
For other notes on environments where multiple languages coexist, see the chapter that describes notes on environments where multiple languages coexist in the Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide.
