11.4 How to implement NAT in NNMi

NNMi uses tenants to manage a NAT environment. Tenants provides node groups, mapping, and security support based on the concept of logical groups. An example of tenants is the customers in an Internet provider's network. Some Internet providers reuse internal IP addresses by using dynamic NAT within their networks. In such a case, NNMi provides appropriate network security by managing individual customers in the network by means of regional managers. This means that one tenant (customer) can no longer communicate with another tenant in the same regional network. For details about tenants, see Chapter 12. NNMi Security and Multi-Tenancy.

If a network management environment contains overlapping address domains, at least each domain must be configured as a unique tenant. The NNMi implementation method and requirements might depend on the protocol in use. For example, if dynamic NAT or dynamic PAT is used, additional hardware and licenses are required. For details, see the subsequent sections that apply to your NAT protocol type.
