The following figure shows the J2EE applications development cycle and the tools used in the development and execution environments.

You use Eclipse in the development environment to develop and test J2EE applications. If a problem occurs while testing a J2EE application, you modify the J2EE application. You use server management commands or the management portal to deploy completed J2EE applications to the execution environment. In the execution environment, you use server management commands to set up the runtime properties for the J2EE applications and J2EE resources.
