4.9.1 Acquiring a User Dump (In Windows)

This subsection describes the collection of user dumps.

Organization of this subsection
(1) In Windows XP
(2) In OSs other than Windows XP

(1) In Windows XP

When process down occurs and the following file exists, the file will be extracted:

For Dr.Watson's-crash-dump-output-destination-specified-directory, execute Dr. Watson (drwtsn32) and confirm the crash dump column path.

Note
In the Dr. Watson (drwtsn32) option, make sure that Report using message box (U) is Disabled. Note that the default value is disabled. If the user dump is obtained (the -fd option of the cjstopsv command is used) when the option is Enabled, problems such as improper output of the user dump occur depending on the time at which the displayed confirmation dialog box is closed.

To acquire a user dump when process hang-up and slow down occurs, confirm the process ID and execute the userdump.exe command. userdump.exe is the command provided by Microsoft.

userdump.exe process-ID

When a user dump is acquired using the userdump.exe command, it is output to the current directory from where userdump.exe is executed.

(2) In OSs other than Windows XP

In Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista

Use the task manager or a Windows debug tool to obtain the user dump. For details, see the Microsoft website.

In Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

Acquire the following file using the -fd option of the cjstopsv command:

User-dump-output-destination-directory\cjmemdump.dmp

Specify the user-dump-output-destination-directory in the environment variable CJMEMDUMP_PATH.
