Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution Client Description and User's Guide
The following shows the method for estimating the hard disk space required for installing packages in the distribution-destination system.
To install a package in the distribution-destination system, you need a work directory for temporary use. A value other than in the estimation formula indicates the disk space requirement for the work directory.
JP1/Software Distribution Client uses the following directories as work directories:
- For systems other than HP-UX: /NETMRDS
- For HP-UX: /var/opt/NETMDMW
For systems other than HP-UX, /NETMRDS is a symbolic link. The substance of the directory may be /opt/NETMRDS in some cases. For the work directory, a directory substance is used.
If the distribution-destination system is also used as a packager, add the space requirement indicated in 6.2.3 Disk space requirement for the packager.
Furthermore, add an additional space requirement if any of the functions described below are to be used.
- Organization of this subsection
- (1) Client services
- (2) Generator tools
(1) Client services
(a) Installation at system shutdown or startup
To install a package at system shutdown or startup, disk space is required that is equal to the size of the package being installed.
(b) Recovery from an installation failure
To create a backup file, the recovery facility requires disk space equal to the size of the earlier-version package.
- For Hitachi program products
- For another company's software
- When the recovery facility is used to distribute another company's HP-UX version of software, the OS's standard installation command swinstall is executed with the -x autorecover_product=true option added at the distribution-destination system. When this occurs, disk space is required that is equal to the size of the backup file being created.
- For user data and user programs (when a backup list is not used)
- The following shows an example for computing the total file name length.
- For user data and user programs (when a backup list is used)
(c) Log file
- Message log file for the client services
- Disk space required by the following files:
- For systems other than HP-UX: /NETMRDS/rdsprm/MAIN.LOGF
- For HP-UX: /var/opt/NETMDMW/rdsprm/MAIN.LOGF
- When the upper limit that is set in MaxEntryofMessage is exceeded, information is overwritten.
- Hitachi program products distribution information
- The files listed below each require 128 kilobytes. When 128 kilobytes are exceeded, the information is overwritten.
- For systems other than HP-UX: /NETMRDS/rdsprm/PPINS.LOGF
- For HP-UX: /var/opt/NETMDMW/rdsprm/PPINS.LOGF
- Another company's software distribution information
- The files listed below each require 10,240 kilobytes. When 10,240 kilobytes are exceeded, the existing information is output to the ISVSOFT.LOGF.bak backup file, and new information is output to ISVSOFT.LOGF.
- For systems other than HP-UX: /NETMRDS/rdsprm/ISVSOFT.LOGF
- For HP-UX: /var/opt/NETMDMW/rdsprm/ISVSOFT.LOGF
- You can also change the size of the ISVSOFT.LOGF file in the operating-environment settings file. For details, see 6.8.2 Items set in the operating-environment settings file.
- OS patch distribution information
- The files listed below store the messages that are output by the OS patch unarchiving process and the installation command. In both files, the previous message is deleted every time the OS patch distribution job is executed. If multiple OS patch distribution jobs are created and executed, a message is stored for each OS patch distributed.
- For systems other than HP-UX
/NETMRDS/rdsprm/OSPATCH.LOGF
/NETMRDS/rdsprm/UNACV.LOGF
- For HP-UX
/var/opt/NETMDMW/rdsprm/OSPATCH.LOGF
/var/opt/NETMDMW/rdsprm/UNACV.LOGF
- File for storing information output during processing to collect user files
- The files listed below each require 20 kilobytes. When 20 kilobytes are exceeded, the information is overwritten.
- For systems other than HP-UX: /NETMRDS/rdsprm/CF.LOGF
- For HP-UX: var/opt/NETMDMW/rdsprm/CF.LOGF
(2) Generator tools
(a) Directory for installation-scheduled packages
The following disk space is required for packages waiting to be installed on a specified date under the directory for installation-scheduled packages (/opt/NETMDMGF/HOKAN/).
(b) Log file
- Generator tools log file (/opt/NETMDMGF/GF.LOGF)
- When this disk space is exceeded, the information is overwritten.
- Generator tools error log (/opt/NETMDMGF/.dmgflog)
- Requires 13,380 bytes. When 13,380 bytes are exceeded, the information is overwritten.
