4.5.1 Reporting distribution/collection results (client services)

By receiving reports from the distribution-destination system, the managing server manage the package distribution or file collection execution status, as well as the package status at the distribution-destination system. The managing server stores the package status at the distribution destination in the package status file.

When package distribution or file collection is executed, the relay system automatically executes the rdssnd command to automatically report the processing results to the managing server. Processing results at a client connected through the relay system are reported together with the processing results of the local machine to the managing server.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Retry of the result report
(2) Distribution status report from machines where JP1/Software Distribution does not operate

(1) Retry of the result report

On the relay systems, you can set a retry count for repeated failures to send processing results (execution of rdssnd command) to the managing server. If a relay system is still unable to forward results after trying for the specified retry count, the results will be resent with the next processing results. Setting a retry count reduces unwanted data traffic because it stops repeated invalid transmissions of result reports. For information on setting a retry count for sending processing results, see 6.8 Configuring the operating-environment settings file.

(2) Distribution status report from machines where JP1/Software Distribution does not operate

By executing the rdsusnd2 command of the client services in the distribution-destination system of UNIX, distribution status of user data and user programs on machines where JP1/Software Distribution does not operate (non-supported terminals) can be reported to the managing server. The contents of the report for the rdsusnd2 command are the same as the rdsusnd command.

This function allows the UNIX managing server to manage the package status at non-supported terminals such as ATM terminals of banks and POS terminals of distribution businesses.
