8.3.2 Managing saved jobs and folders

This section explains how to create a folder and how to edit a saved job or folder.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Creating a folder
(2) Renaming a folder or job
(3) Modifying a saved job
(4) Deleting a folder or job

(1) Creating a folder

Job management becomes simpler if you create a folder for each type of job. Folders can have a hierarchical structure. When a relational database is used, the folder hierarchy can consist of a maximum of four levels.

To create a folder:

  1. Open the Job Definition window, and from the File menu, choose Create Folder (or choose the Create Folder button).
The Create Folder dialog box is displayed.
  2. Enter a folder name.
Specify a unique name for the folder, as up to 32 characters. Folder names must conform to the following rules:
    • Spaces and the following symbols are not allowed:
      \, /, *, ", :, ', !, |,., <, >, ?
    • The system is not case-sensitive in interpreting the name.
  3. After specifying the item, choose Exit.
The setting is saved and the Create Folder dialog box closes.
Choosing Add enables you to create another folder.

(2) Renaming a folder or job

This section describes how to rename an existing folder or job.

Note that if you rename a folder or job prior to job execution, the scheduled job becomes no longer in effect.

To rename a folder:

  1. Open the Job Definition window, and then select a folder or job you want to rename.
The selected folder or job is displayed in reverse video.
  2. From the File menu, choose Rename.
The Rename dialog box is displayed.
  3. Specify a new name, and then choose OK.
    The new name takes effect.

(3) Modifying a saved job

You can modify the details of a saved job, such as its destination, execution date and time, and execution time limit.

To modify a saved job:

  1. In the Job Definition window, select the job you want to modify, and then from the Edit menu, choose Modify (or double-click the selected job).
The Edit Job dialog box is displayed.
In this dialog box, you can modify the job definitions in the same manner as in the Create Job dialog box.

From the Options page of a Get software information from client job, you can select multiple search targets when you are creating a new job, but you can only change the search targets when you are modifying a job.
  2. After modifying the definitions, save the changes or execute the job.

(4) Deleting a folder or job

This section describes how to delete a folder or job. Once deleted, a folder or job cannot be restored. When a folder is deleted, all the jobs and folders belonging to it are also deleted.

(a) Deletion method

To delete a folder or job:

  1. Open the Job Definition window, and then select the folder or job you want to delete.
The selected folder or job is displayed in reverse video.
  2. From the Edit menu, choose Delete.
A dialog box is displayed requesting confirmation of the deletion request. Clicking Cancel closes the dialog box without deleting the folder or job.
(b) Note on deleting a folder or job

A job with an execution time specified on the Schedule page is displayed in both the Job Definition window and the Job Status window. If you delete such a job before the set execution time, you must remember to delete it not only from the Job Definition window but also from the Job Status window. If you delete it from the Job Definition only, an error will occur at the set execution time because the job definition will have been deleted.
