8.1 Job creation and execution procedures

To perform remote installation or remote collection, you create and execute a job of instructions at Remote Installation Manager. After executing the job, you should review the job status and execution results and take appropriate action.

This section presents the procedures for creating and executing a job.

To create and execute a job:

  1. Creating a job
Use the Create Job dialog box to create a job. You can specify a name for the job, its destinations, and execution conditions. For details about how to create jobs, see 8.2 Creating a job.
You can customize the window used to create a job by changing the default values and the order in which items are displayed. For the customization procedure, see 8.6 Customizing the Job Creation window.

You can save a created job. By editing an existing job, you can easily execute similar processing as many times as needed. Jobs are saved in the Job Definition window in units called folders. For details about how to save jobs, see 8.3 Executing and saving a job.

  2. Executing the job
When you create a job, you can specify whether to execute the job immediately or at a specified date and time. You can use the Schedule page to specify the job execution timing.

For details about how to execute jobs, see 8.3.1 Executing and saving a job.
In the case of a job for collecting client inventory information, you can specify an interval for executing the job periodically at clients (periodic job execution). For details about regularly scheduled inventory information collection, see 2.2.5 How to acquire inventory information in the manual Description and Planning Guide.
  3. Checking the execution results
You can check the execution results of a job in the Job Status window. This window displays the status of executed jobs in a hierarchical structure, by folders and jobs. The left-hand section of the window shows the hierarchical structure of folders and jobs, while the right-hand section shows information (such as the execution status and conditions) about the item selected in the left-hand section. For details about how to check job execution results, see 8.4 Checking job execution status.

  4. Taking appropriate action
If the execution results in the Job Status window indicate that the job terminated normally, you can delete the job. If a job did not terminate normally, you must re-execute it at those destinations. Use the Job Retry dialog box to re-execute a job.

If a job could not be executed at specified clients due to an error in the relay system, you can execute it through a different relay system. If an uncompleted job is a split distribution job, you can force its completion by sending the remaining unsent packages as a batch.
For details about how to delete and re-execute jobs, see 8.5 Processing after checking job execution results.
