(1) Common notes
- The WSUS linkage function does not support Integrated Windows Authentication, Digest Authentication, or .NET Passport Authentication. If these authentications have been set, the WSUS linkage function cannot be used.
- If you create a WSUS computer group from a host group, make sure that the clients involved are all version 08-00 or later. Machines on which Client 07-50 or earlier is installed and machines on which JP1/Software Distribution Client is not installed cannot be registered into a WSUS computer group.
- If Work Offline is selected from the File menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the WSUS linkage function cannot be used. Before using the WSUS linkage function, make sure that Work Offline is not selected.
- If a host group with the same name as the existing WSUS computer group is registered, the WSUS computer group will be overwritten only by the host group's clients. This may result in deletion of registered clients. If you want to avoid this, rename the host group before creating a WSUS computer group, and then register the host group.
- To use the WSUS linkage function, the ASP.NET application must be configured for the installed virtual directory beforehand.
If the WSUS linkage function does not run, use the following procedure to check whether or not the ASP.NET application has been configured:
- Open the properties of the virtual directory on which the WSUS linkage function has been installed.
- On the Virtual Directory page, click the Configuration button.
The Application Configuration dialog box appears.
- Check whether or not the extension .aspx has been registered on the Application Mapping page.
If .aspx has not been registered or the path of the executable file set in .aspx is a DLL whose version is not Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, the WSUS linkage function will not run successfully. To run this function successfully, use the ASP.NET IIS Registration tool (Aspnet_regiis.exe) provided with Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 to configure the ASP.NET application for the virtual directory on which the WSUS linkage function has been installed. The following shows an example of the command used to execute Aspnet_regiis.exe:
Example:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis
-s W3SVC/1/ROOT/netmWS
For details about Aspnet_regiis.exe, see Microsoft's home page.
(2) Notes about using WSUS 3.0
- If a hierarchized WSUS computer group has been created at the WSUS management console, only the terminal WSUS computer groups are displayed in the Create WSUS Computer Group dialog box of JP1/Software Distribution.
- If a client belonging to a WSUS computer group is registered into another WSUS computer group using JP1/Software Distribution, the client's WSUS computer group is changed and the client is removed from the previous WSUS computer group.
