7.3.2 Managing the authentication status of update programs

This section explains how to manage the authentication status of update programs.

To manage the authentication status of update programs, you use the Update Program Authentication Settings dialog box.

To display the Update Program Authentication Settings dialog box:

  1. From Remote Installation Manager's Options menu, choose WSUS Linkage and then Update Program Authentication Settings.
    The Update Program Authentication Settings dialog box opens.

Once setup has been completed in an environment in which WSUS is hierarchized, you must execute the dcmwsus command in order to apply the update program authentication status to each WSUS. For details about the operation in an environment in which WSUS is hierarchized, see 7.3.3 Linking to a WSUS with a hierarchical structure.

The following sections explain the details about the items in the dialog box and how to change the update program authentication status.

(1) Update Program Authentication Settings dialog box

The items in the Update Program Authentication Settings dialog box are explained below.

Update program column
Displays the information on the update programs managed by WSUS and the authentication status for each update program. The following table explains the meanings of the displayed authentication statuses.

Table 7-4 Authentication status of update programs displayed in the Update program column

Displayed status Meaning
Unauthenticated The update program is not authenticated for any of the WSUS computer groups displayed in the WSUS computer group column.
Detect only Detection of whether the update program has been applied is permitted for all WSUS computer groups displayed in the WSUS computer group column. The update program is not to be installed.
Installation Installation of the update program is approved for all WSUS computer groups displayed in the WSUS computer group column.
Delete Uninstallation of the update program is approved for all WSUS computer groups displayed in the WSUS computer group column.
Mixed The authentication status is different for each of the WSUS computer groups displayed in the WSUS computer group column.
When an update program is selected in the Update program column, the authentication status for each WSUS computer group is displayed in the WSUS computer group column.
Because All computers of WSUS is not included in the WSUS computer groups in the WSUS computer group column, the authentication status may not match the status displayed at the WSUS server.

Details button
Displays the detailed information about the selected update program.

WSUS computer group column
Shows, for each WSUS computer group registered in WSUS, the authentication status of the update program selected in the Update program column. Note that All computers is not displayed in JP1/Software Distribution. The following table explains the meaning of the displayed authentication status.

Displayed status Meaning
Unauthenticated The selected update program is not authenticated.
Detect only Detection of whether the selected update program has been applied is permitted. The update program is not to be installed.
Installation Installation of the selected update program is approved.
Delete Uninstallation of the selected update program is approved.
In JP1/Software Distribution, you cannot change the authentication status of an update program to Delete.
If multiple update programs are selected in the Update program column, their authentication statuses are not displayed. However, you can change their authentication statuses.

Installation button
Changes the authentication status for the WSUS computer group selected in the WSUS computer group column to Installation.

Detect only button
Changes the authentication status for the WSUS computer group selected in the WSUS computer group column to Detect only.

Close button
Closes the Update Program Authentication Settings dialog box.

(2) Changing the authentication status of an update program

To change the authentication status of an update program for each computer group:

  1. In the Update program column, select the update program whose authentication status you wish to change.
    The WSUS computer group column displays the authentication status for each WSUS computer group. However, authentication status is not displayed if multiple update programs are selected.
  2. In the WSUS computer group column, select the WSUS computer group for which the authentication status is to be changed.
    You can select multiple WSUS computer groups.
  3. Click the Installation or Detect only button.
    A message is displayed, asking to confirm the authentication status change.
  4. Click the OK button.
    The authentication status for the selected WSUS computer groups is changed.

(3) Authentication of an update program that requires an end user license agreement (EULA)

Before some update programs can be installed, the user must agree to a license agreement. When you try to change the authentication status of such update programs to Installation, a dialog box opens to confirm whether you agree to the license agreement.

To change the authentication status of the update program to Installation, read the content of the license agreement, and if you agree to its terms, click the Agree button. If you click the Do Not Agree button, the authentication status of the update program is not changed.
