The items that can be set on the Network Settings page are explained below.

(a) Connection settings

Set appropriate settings for connecting to the Internet and for the connection for patch downloading.

Connect to the Internet via a proxy server
Select this check box to use a proxy server to connect to the Internet. The default is that this check box is cleared.

Use the connection settings in Internet Options
Select this option to use the Internet connection set for Microsoft Internet Explorer for purposes of patch downloading. The default is that this check box is selected.

Specify a proxy server
Select this option to specify a proxy server for purposes of patch downloading. If you selected this item, you must specify the appropriate information for the proxy server in Address (IP address) and Port number.
Authentication information
Specify in User name and Password the appropriate information for logging into the proxy server you specified in Address. A user name can consist of up to 260 bytes, and a password can consist of up to 30 bytes. If there is no proxy server authentication setting, these settings are not needed.
(b) Connection settings for downloading patch information

Set the appropriate connection information for downloading the patch information file. For details about how to download the patch information file, see the Readme file provided with JP1/Software Distribution Manager.

URL
Specify the connection destination's URL.

Authentication information
Specify the user name and password used for authentication prior to connection.
(c) Communication settings

Set the action to be taken when a communication error occurs.

Retry interval to be used when a communication error occurs
Specify a retry interval in the range from 1 to 7,200 seconds that is to be used when an error occurs during data transfer. The default is 5 seconds.

Maximum number of retries to be used when a communication error occurs
Specify in the range from 0 to 999 the maximum number of retries that are attempted when an error occurs during data transfer. The default is 5. If you specify 0, no retry is attempted.
The retries are attempted at the interval set in Retry interval to be used when a communication error occurs up to the number of times specified here.

Timeout period for a communication error
Specify in the range from 0 to 60 seconds a timeout period to use when an error occurs during data transfer. The default is 20 seconds. If you specify 0, the timeout period is that used by the OS.

(2) Updating the list of patches

To update the patch information displayed in the List of software updates, click the Update button. You can download the patch information file by clicking the Update button.

Once you have downloaded successfully the current version of the patch information file, the patch information displayed in List of software updates is updated. New items that have been added to List of software updates and items whose patch information has been updated are displayed in boldface.

The version of the acquired patch information file is displayed in Patch information version.

(3) Downloading a patch

To download a patch displayed in List of software updates, select its check box and click the Download button. You can select and download multiple patches at the same time.

The status icons shown in the following table indicate whether or not a patch has been downloaded, and whether or not it had been packaged in the past.

Table 7-1 Download and packaging status of each status icon

No. Status icon Download status Packaging status
1 [Figure] Not downloaded Never packaged in the past
2 [Figure] Not downloaded Packaged in the past
3 [Figure] Downloaded Never packaged in the past
4 [Figure] Downloaded Packaged in the past

If you select a patch that has already been downloaded and click the Download button, the patch will not be downloaded again. To download again a patch that has already been downloaded, you must first delete it and then download it again.

When patch downloading begins, a dialog box is displayed showing the downloading status. After each selected patch is downloaded, its data is stored in the database. To interrupt patch downloading, click the Cancel button. Patch downloading stops and the download process terminates. If either of the following errors occurs when multiple patches are downloaded, a patch resulting in the error will not be downloaded, but patch downloading will continue:

When downloading of all selected patches is complete, a dialog box is displayed showing the download results. If a patch was downloaded successfully, its status icon in List of software updates shows that the patch has been acquired.

When a patch is downloaded, the script file to be set when the patch is packaged is also downloaded.

If Embedded RDB is used and a space shortage occurs in the database area for downloading patches, the message shown below is output to DPT.LOG.

DPT102-E Error occurred while accessing database. Reason: KFPA11756-E No available pages in RDAREA

If this occurs, patches cannot be downloaded. In such a case, delete any unnecessary patches, expand the space available for the security update management file by either upgrading or reorganizing the database, and then download the patches again.

For details on how to reorganize the database, see 7.4.6 (1) Database reorganization using Database Manager in the manual Setup Guide.

For details on how to upgrade the database, see 7.4.3 (2) Upgrading the database (for Embedded RDB) in the manual Setup Guide.

(4) Deleting a patch

You can delete the data for a downloaded patch (as well as its script file) so that the patch's icon on the list indicates that the patch has not been downloaded.

To delete an already downloaded patch, select its check box in List of software updates and click the Delete button.

The data for the patch and its script file are deleted, and the status icon for the patch in List of software updates is changed to indicate that it has not been downloaded.
