2.2.9 Create Icon page

Use this page to specify an icon or shortcut that can be used to install a user program.

This page is displayed only when the package type is User programs and data or Differing-components package. The contents of this page depend on whether you choose to create an icon or a shortcut.

Do not create an icon for a differing-components package; an icon created for a differing-components package will be ignored during installation.

If a job using a shortcut is executed for a client and the folder specified for Shortcut pathname is not found on the client, both creation of the shortcut and execution of the job result in an error.

(1) Create

Select whether you wish to create an icon or a shortcut at the remote installation target. If you select Icon, you can register it in the Programs menu at the remote installation target. If you select Shortcut, you can create a shortcut in a desired path, such as the program menu or desktop. In Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and the paths to the program menu and desktop differ depending on the logged-on user. Therefore, if you do not specify a correct name in Shortcut pathname, the created shortcut is not displayed in the program menu or desktop.

(2) Icon attributes

This section is displayed when Icon is selected under Create. When you create an icon, you must enter the name of the icon group and a name for the icon. If either field is left blank, the icon will not be created correctly on the client at the installation destination.

Group name
Specify an icon group name consisting of up to 30 characters to be used at the remote installation target.

Icon name
Specify an icon name of up to 40 characters.

Program pathname
Specify the path name of the user program to be associated with the icon.

(3) Shortcut attributes

This section is displayed when Shortcut is selected under Create.

Shortcut pathname
Specify the path name (maximum of 253 bytes) of an existing folder as the shortcut creation target. The length of this path name combined with the shortcut name must not exceed 254 bytes.

\ / * " : < > | ?

Specify the path name (1 to 259 bytes) of the program (executable program) for which the shortcut is to be created.

After defining the icon or shortcut, choose Add to add the icon or shortcut to the List of icon/shortcut definitions.
