11.11 Principal causes of errors during linkage to WSUS and how to handle them

This section describes the errors that may occur when WSUS is linked, and the principal causes and how to handle them.

Organization of this section: (1) The message "WSUS connector URL is not set. Linkage function is not enabled." is displayed; (2) The message "Linkage with WSUS is not installed or the WSUS connector URL is invalid." is displayed; (3) The message "Communication with WSUS connector failed." is displayed; (4) The message "Error occurred in the WSUS connector." is output; (5) Even when the Notification of WSUS updates task is executed, updates notification email is not sent

(1) The message "WSUS connector URL is not set. Linkage function is not enabled." is displayed

This message is output when the WSUS Updates Management job menu is selected.

URL of the WSUS connector in the Server Setup dialog box was set incorrectly. Set URL of the WSUS connector correctly in the Server Setup dialog box.

(2) The message "Linkage with WSUS is not installed or the WSUS connector URL is invalid." is displayed

This message is output when the WSUS Updates Management job menu is selected.

The following are the possible causes:

WSUS Linkage Component was not installed on the WSUS server.
Ensure that Linkage with WSUS component is installed on the WSUS server machine.
URL of the WSUS connector in the Server Setup dialog box was set incorrectly.
Check the website and virtual directory that were created when Linkage with WSUS component was installed.

(3) The message "Communication with WSUS connector failed." is displayed

This message is output when the WSUS Updates Management job menu is selected.

The following are the possible causes:

The World Wide Web Publishing Service of the WSUS server stopped, or an error occurred.
Start World Wide Web Publishing Service and make sure that the WSUS Manager Console is displayed.
An error occurred in the communication program of Asset Information Manager.
Restart Microsoft Internet Information Services and attempt communication again.

(4) The message "Error occurred in the WSUS connector." is output

This message is output when the WSUS Updates Management job menu is selected.

The following are the possible causes:

WSUS is not installed on the computer on which WSUS Linkage Component is installed.
Make sure that WSUS is installed.
The transmission XML is invalid.
Check the WSUS connector error detail that is output to the log.

(5) Even when the Notification of WSUS updates task is executed, updates notification email is not sent

The following are the possible causes:

The World Wide Web Publishing Service of the WSUS server stopped, or an error occurred.
Start World Wide Web Publishing Service and make sure that the WSUS Manager Console is displayed.
WSUS Linkage Component was not installed on the WSUS server.
Ensure that Linkage with WSUS component is installed on the WSUS server machine.
URL of the WSUS connector, Notification by e-mail, or Address to e-mail in the Server Setup dialog box was set incorrectly.
Check the settings.
No updated program arrived at the WSUS server.
Use WSUS Manager Console to check whether the latest updates has arrived at the WSUS server.
