5.12.3 Periodic backup of transaction log

Microsoft SQL Server collects a history of database accesses during update operations as a transaction log. When the Asset Information Manager database is created according to the setup procedure, a Microsoft SQL Server transaction log is assigned to it.

The transaction log provides important data for recovery in the event of a system failure. However, if the log becomes full, the asset management database is no longer accessible. Hitachi recommends that you back up the transaction log periodically so that you can delete the data and provide sufficient room.

Microsoft SQL Server's SQL Enterprise Manager has a function for periodic backup. If you do not need the transaction log, you can set it to be discarded automatically. However, be aware that uncommitted transactions are collected temporarily as logs; if there is substantial processing within a single transaction, then even if you set the logs to be discarded, a transaction log full error may occur.
