3.9 Setting up global buffer expansion

This section explains the setting procedure for global buffer expansion, when the database type for the monitoring target scheduler service is an embedded database or HiRDB.

Use the following procedure for global buffer expansion.

  1. Stop all JP1/AJS services.
Stop all the services that access the embedded database or HiRDB. For example, if the monitoring target is JP1/AJS3 - Manager, stop the JP1/AJS3 service and the JP1/AJS3 Console Agent service. If the monitoring target is JP1/AJS2 - Manager, stop the JP1/AJS2 service, the JP1/AJS2 Monitor service, and the JP1/AJS2 Console Agent service.
  2. Stop the embedded database or HiRDB service.
For details on how to stop the embedded-database service when the monitoring target is JP1/AJS3 - Manager, see the manual Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 3 Administration Guide. If the monitoring target is JP1/AJS2 - Manager, see the manual Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 2 Planning and Administration Guide.
For details about how to stop HiRDB services, see the manual HiRDB System Operation Guide.
  3. Change the system common definitions for the embedded database or HiRDB.

    For the embedded database:
Edit the system common definition file for the embedded database, and change the global buffer assignments.
    Item Description
    File name

    In Windows:
    embedded- database-practical-folder\conf\

    In UNIX:
    embedded-database-practical-directory/conf/
    Operand name pdbuffer
Global buffer name gbuf04 (pdbuffer -a option)
Number of global buffers pdbuffer -n option
It is necessary to estimate the number of buffers to specify with the -n option according to the environment used. For details about estimates, see Appendix E.3 Estimating the Global Buffer.
Example: When estimate results show it is necessary to expand the number of buffers from 1000 to 5000.
    [Before modification]
    pdbuffer -a gbuf04 -n 1000 -r AJS2INDX -w 20 -l 4
    [After modification]
    pdbuffer -a gbuf04 -n 5000 -r AJS2INDX -w 20 -l 4

    For HiRDB:
See the manual of the HiRDB you are using for more information.

    Note
Do not change the content of the system common definitions file to anything other than the values specified for the -n option in pdbuffer operands.
In addition, if estimate results show it is not necessary to expand the number of buffers, do not change the values specified for the -n option in pdbuffer operands.
  4. Start the embedded database or HiRDB service.
For details on how to start the embedded-database service when the monitoring target is JP1/AJS3 - Manager, see the manual Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 3 Administration Guide. If the monitoring target is JP1/AJS2 - Manager, see the manual Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 2 Planning and Administration Guide.
For details about how to start HiRDB services, see the manual HiRDB System Operation Guide.
  5. Start all JP1/AJS services.
Start the services you shut down in step 1. as necessary.
