2.2.1 Prerequisite programs for linking mail systems

The following describes the prerequisite programs and settings required for linking a mail system.

Outlook is a prerequisite program for mail system linkage, and must be installed on the same host as JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent.

Outlook conforms to the MAPI standard developed by Microsoft, and for this reason Outlook-based mail system linkage is implemented using MAPI.

(2) Example system configuration

(1) Functions and programs required for linking mail systems

On a Windows host, JP1/AJS3 supports linkage with the mail systems listed below. Set up the mail server software of your choice on the destination host for mail system linkage. The mail server does not need to run on the same host as JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent.

The following table shows the prerequisite programs and functions for linking a mail system and the supported mail systems.

D/S: Linkage is available from the desktop and from services.
D: Linkage is available from the desktop only.
N: Linkage is not available.

Includes mail servers that support the SMTP/POP3 protocol (such as Lotus Notes Domino).

You can use the mail system linkage function with a service or on the desktop. You must select one or the other in order to use the mail system linkage function.

When using the mail system linkage function with a service, the JP1/AJS3 Mail service must be running when you execute the email sending job or email reception monitoring job. When using the function on the desktop, the JP1/AJS3 mail monitoring process must be running when you execute the job.

The option you select determines whether you need to log on to Windows to use the mail system linkage function. When you use the mail system linkage function with a service, you do not need to log on to Windows provided that the JP1/AJS3 Mail service is running. If you use the function on the desktop, you cannot start the JP1/AJS3 mail monitoring process without first logging on to Windows.

For details on how to start the JP1/AJS3 mail monitoring process and the JP1/AJS3 Mail service, see 2.2.6 Starting and ending the mail system linkage function.

Cautionary notes
  • You cannot use the mail system linkage function with 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 (x64).
  • You cannot use Outlook Express for linking a mail system.
  • In Windows Server 2008, you can only use Outlook 2003 or later for linking a mail system.
  • The versions of Outlook you can use with the mail system linkage function depends on the environment (Windows and JP1/AJS3 version) on the host that executes the email sending job or email reception monitoring job.
When linking with a mail system, check which versions of Outlook are supported by reading the Release Notes provided with the version of JP1/AJS3 installed on the host that will execute the email sending job or email reception monitoring job.

(2) Example system configuration

The following figure shows an example of a system configuration for linking with mail systems.
