4.2 Register Host window

The Register Host window is used to register a host in the system hierarchy managed by IM Configuration Management.

The following figure shows an example of the Register Host window.

The following describes the items displayed in the Host Registration window. An item with an asterisk (*) must be specified.

Host
Specifies the name of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy. From 1 to 255 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and periods (.). Note that the host name cannot end with a hyphen (-) or a period (.).
The user must keep the following in mind when entering the host name:
  • An IP address cannot be entered as the host name. If an IP address is entered, the profile function might not work properly.
  • A host name that can be resolved must be entered. If the user enters a host name that cannot be resolved, the host information might not be collected properly.

IP address
The IP address of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy is automatically entered. The user cannot type an IP address.

Comment
The user can enter a comment about the host to be registered in the system hierarchy. From 0 to 80 bytes can be specified.

Host type
Specifies the type of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy. The user can select Physical host, Logical host, Virtual host, or Unknown. Associated hosts can be entered, depending on the host type.

The display changes depending on the selected host type to allow associated hosts to be entered.

When Physical host or Unknown is selected:

No associated hosts can be entered.

When Logical host is selected:

Active host
The user enters the name of the active logical host. From 0 to 255 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and periods (.).

Standby host
The user enters the name of the standby host. Multiple host names require a comma (,) as a separator. A maximum of four host names can be entered. From 0 to 1,024 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), periods (.), and commas (,).

When Virtual host is selected:

VMM host
The user enters the name of the host on which VMM is running. From 1 to 255 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and periods (.).
