Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide
The following gives cautionary notes on uninstalling and performing unsetup of Performance Management:
- Organization of this subsection
- (1) Notes on the OS user permission required for uninstallation
- (2) Notes on the network
- (3) Notes on programs
- (4) Notes on services
- (5) Notes on PFM - Web Console
- (6) Other related notes
(1) Notes on the OS user permission required for uninstallation
When you uninstall Performance Management programs, always use an account that has Administrators permissions.
(2) Notes on the network
Even though Performance Management programs are uninstalled, the port numbers defined in the services file are not deleted.
(3) Notes on programs
- Files or folders might remain if you uninstall Performance Management programs while other programs or services, or programs that reference Performance Management files (such as Windows Event Viewer) are running. In such cases, manually delete all of the folders and files in the installation folder.
- A message that prompts you to restart the system might be displayed if you uninstall a program while other Performance Management programs or services, or programs that reference Performance Management files (such as Windows Event Viewer) are running. In such cases, restart the system and complete the uninstallation.
- If a host has PFM - Base and either PFM - Agent or PFM - RM installed, you have to uninstall PFM - Agent or PFM - RM first in order to uninstall PFM - Base. In such cases, uninstall PFM - Agent or PFM - RM, and then uninstall PFM - Base. Additionally, if a host has PFM - Manager and either PFM - Agent or PFM - RM installed, you have to uninstall PFM - Agent or PFM - RM first to uninstall PFM - Manager. In such cases, uninstall PFM - Agent or PFM - RM, and then uninstall PFM - Manager.
(4) Notes on services
- Stop all Performance Management programs and services in the entire Performance Management system before you uninstall PFM - Manager.
- Uninstalling only PFM - Agent or PFM - RM does not delete the service information that can be displayed by using the jpctool service list command. In such cases, use the jpctool service delete command to delete the service information. For details on how to delete the service information, see 5.2.3 Deleting the service information
- If you uninstall PFM - Manager and then re-install it on the same machine, two Trap Generator services might be displayed when the jpctool service list command is executed. In such cases, start the PFM - Manager service and use the jpctool service delete command to delete the Trap Generator that is Inactive.
(5) Notes on PFM - Web Console
- The value of the %SystemDrive% environmental variable is referenced as the log output folder during the uninstallation of the program. If the %SystemDrive% environment variable has not been defined, the log file is not output.
- The log recorded during the uninstallation is output to %SystemDrive%\pfmwebconuninst.log. Also, the end code of the uninstaller is output to %SystemDrive%\pfmwebconuninst.rtn. In Windows Server 2008, an uninstallation log is not output.
- If the uninstallation fails, back up the log (%SystemDrive%\pfmwebconuninst.log) that was created during the uninstallation, remove the cause of the problem, and then uninstall the program again. If uninstalled programs do not include Performance Management - Web Console, install it and then uninstall it.
- If you uninstall while a list of services is displayed by selecting the Services applet (by choosing Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Services or by choosing Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Services and Applications, and then Services), it is possible that the name of PFM - Web Service or PFM - Web Console might not be deleted. Close such windows before the uninstallation.
- When you uninstall Performance Management programs from a host that has PFM - Web Console installed, close all browser windows first and then uninstall the programs.
- When the uninstallation of PFM - Web Console has finished, you must restart the system to disable the PFM - Web Console settings.
(6) Other related notes
- If an instance environment is set in PFM - Agent or PFM - RM, perform unsetup of the instance environment before uninstalling PFM - Agent or PFM - RM. For details on the unsetup procedure, see the chapters describing installation and setup in the appropriate PFM - Agent or PFM - RM manual.
- If the OpenView linkage facility is used, perform unsetup of the facility before uninstalling PFM - Manager or PFM - Base. For details on the unsetup procedure, see the chapter that describes the linkage with Network Node Manager (NNM) for operation monitoring in the Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management User's Guide.
