- The process for applying an operation monitoring policy by executing a Set the software monitoring policy job must be carried out from a single managing server only. Only one operation monitoring policy can be applied to each client. If a different operation monitoring policy is applied from another managing server, the operation information that is not set to be acquired is reported, resulting in an increase in the network's workload.
- If a client's path is subsequently changed after that client was set to report monitoring results to a managing server, reapply the operation monitoring policy by executing a Set the software monitoring policy job.
- If you apply the operation monitoring policy while the machine is online, and then specify ? for the connection destination on the Connection Destination page of the client setup (to place the machine offline), operation information is collected at the client and is not reported to the higher system. In such a case, use an offline machine information acquisition media to periodically obtain operation information from the client.
- When collecting a backup of the operation history storage directory or operation history backup directory, do not change the directory structure or file name.
- To browse the operation log of a client that has been deleted from the system configuration, in the Software Operation Information window, choose the Open menu and specify the directory that contains the operation log of the deleted client.
In a system that uses a host ID, the client's host ID is added to the name of the directory containing the operation log. Therefore, Hitachi recommends the following so that the host ID of the client that has been deleted from the system configuration can be recognized:
- On the System Configuration pane of the server setup, choose Save deletion history so that the deletion history in the system configuration information is saved.
- Use the CSV output utility or the dcmcsvu command to periodically output and save a CSV file containing client host IDs.
- You can browse the suppression log for a client that has been deleted from the system configuration if you take the following step during setup. On the System Configuration pane of the server setup, choose Save deletion history so that the deletion history in the system configuration information is saved. With this setting, you can use the CSV output utility or the dcmcsvu command to output the suppression log for a client that has been deleted to a CSV file. You can output the suppression log even with the Save deletion history check box not selected, the host name and IP address of the deleted client are not output.
- If you change the software operation history storage directory during upgrading or when you choose Modify in the maintenance wizard, you must migrate the existing operation logs.
To migrate operation logs:
- Stop the Remote Install Server service.
- Copy or move the operation logs from the current directory to the new directory.
If existing operation logs are not migrated, they are not backed up. Therefore, some of the operation history backup directory information may be lost after the change.
- If an event log with event ID 16030 is output, a connection error may have occurred on the network drive. Check and, if necessary, revise the network connection settings according to the event log. If a network connection error is output, a lower system's operation logs are not sent to the upper system, resulting in accumulation of operation logs in the lower system.
- If a Set the software monitoring policy job is executed from an OS whose version is 08-10 or earlier for a Windows Vista client, and if file operation logs are specified, execution terminates normally but the file operation logs are not acquired. In addition, if you apply a policy that specifies only file operation logs, file operation logs cannot be acquired.
- If more than one suppression log with the same contents occurs at the same time, only one of them is stored.
- Information about the logon user before and after a logon or logoff operation might not be acquired as operation information.
