2.5.3 Setting user-specific conditions to determine whether or not to install software

JP1/Software Distribution allows various conditions to be specified, such as the hard disk space (system condition) or the installation status of specific software (software condition), for determining whether or not remote installation is to be performed. Normally, the use of JP1/Software Distribution's standard features is sufficient for such checking, but it may be necessary to define user-specific conditions to determine whether or not to install user programs. For example, each client's application terminal ID may be specified to execute remote installation only on the client with an ID that satisfies specified conditions.

For such situations, JP1/Software Distribution provides a feature for starting a specified external program immediately before installation. You can handle a unique situation such as this by starting an external program for checking the user-specific installation conditions immediately before installation.

You specify an external program that is to start immediately before installation on the External Program page in Packager's Software Distribution Packaging dialog box or the Remote Installation Manager's Change Installation Conditions dialog box.

The following figure shows an example of setting user-specific conditions to determine whether or not to install software.
