2.5.1 Checking available hard disk space and other statuses before installing

You can specify the available hard disk space and installed memory status as remote installation conditions.

Even when no such conditions are specified, if a hard disk space shortage occurs during remote installation, the client sends a message to that effect to the Server and deletes all the work files, etc., used during installation. However, in such a case, no extra space may become available after installation because no specific value is provided for available space checking. For this reason, you should specify an appropriate condition as required, such as that 10 or 20 MB of free space is required after installation.

By specifying an installed memory requirement, you can avoid an error such as a program installed successfully but unable to run due to a memory shortage.

These conditions are called system conditions. You specify the system conditions on the System Conditions page in Packager's Software Distribution Packaging dialog box or the Remote Installation Manager's Change Installation Conditions dialog box.

The following figure shows an example of checking the available hard disk space before installation.

In addition to using the System Conditions page, there is a method for using the client counting facility to extract a client and then install software. For details about how to use the client counting facility to extract the destination information, see 2.5.8 Installing on clients that satisfy specified conditions.
