1.3.1 Starting Remote Installation Manager

To start Remote Installation Manager:

  1. From Start, select Programs, then Software Distribution Manager (or Software Distribution Client), and then choose Remote Installation Manager.
    The Software Distribution Manager Logon dialog box opens.

  2. Enter the information for logging onto the managing server.
    For Software Distribution server name, enter the managing server's host name.
    For User ID and Password, enter a user ID and password that provide access privileges for the JP1/Software Distribution database.
    When JP1/Software Distribution users are managed in conjunction with JP1/Base, enter the user name and password of a JP1 user registered in JP1/Base.
    When the Remote Installation Manager starts, the window shown below opens. For details about the menu items, see A. List of Menus.

    Toolbar
    Clicking a button on the toolbar (tool button) executes the function assigned to that button. Moving the cursor to a button displays its function. You can show or hide the toolbar by selecting View and then Toolbars. The toolbar is displayed along the top of the window when the system starts; you can move it using drag-and-drop.
    Labels
    By clicking the column labels on a frame (the headers displayed across the top of the frame), you can reorder the display sequence of the information rows based on the information in the column whose label you clicked.
    Status bar
    The status bar shows JP1/Software Distribution messages. You can toggle between showing and hiding the status bar by selecting View and then Status Bar.
    You can also start Remote Installation Manager from JP1/IM. For details about how to start Remote Installation Manager from JP1/IM, see 2.1 Starting JP1/Software Distribution from JP1/IM in the manual Administrator's Guide Volume 2.
    To use Remote Installation Manager, the user must have the update permission for the ODBC system data source.
