6.25.2 Checking the HA Monitor operation

After you have finished checking the settings and definitions, you must check the start, status, and termination of HA Monitor to verify its operation. When you check the termination of HA Monitor, you can automatically create an HA Monitor connection configuration file. The procedure for checking the HA Monitor status described below assumes that you automatically create the connection configuration file.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Checking startup of HA Monitors

Start all HA Monitors that are connected in the primary and secondary systems.

If you set HA Monitors to be started manually, execute the HA Monitor start command (monstart command) and manually start all HA Monitors. If the KAMN002-I message is issued, HA Monitor has started.

If you have set HA Monitors to be started automatically, restart the OS to confirm that HA Monitors start automatically.

(2) Checking the HA Monitor status

Check if all the HA Monitors that have started are connected correctly. In this step, check the HA Monitor status for the following:

(3) Checking termination of HA Monitors and checking the connection configuration file (that is created automatically)

After you have verified that the HA Monitors that were started were connected correctly, you must check if the HA Monitors can be terminated. When HA Monitor is terminated, an HA Monitor connection configuration file is created automatically. Therefore, you must also check the contents of the HA Monitor connection configuration file.

To check the stoppage of HA Monitors and check the connection configuration file:

  1. Terminate all HA Monitors that are to be connected.

Manually terminate the HA Monitors that are to be connected. You can terminate them by executing the HA Monitor termination command (monstop command). If the KAMN050-I message is issued, an HA Monitor has been terminated.

An HA Monitor connection configuration file is created on each host where an HA Monitor was terminated.

  2. Check the contents of the connection configuration file that was created automatically.

Check the contents of the connection configuration file that was created automatically for any errors. The contents of the automatically created connection configuration file are the same on all hosts.

If the connection configuration file is created automatically, the configuration cannot be changed or deleted. If you want to set a monitoring path directly on the local host and a remote host that will monitor each other or you will be changing or deleting the configuration, you must create the connection configuration file manually.

If you created a connection configuration file manually, confirm that connection information for HA Monitor is not added when HA Monitor is terminated. If connection information for HA Monitor is added, check and, if necessary, revise the connection configuration file and the monitoring path settings.

If you want to increase the number of HA Monitors to be connected, perform the procedure from start to termination of HA Monitor again. Connection information for the new HA Monitor will be added automatically to the connection configuration file. If you have added an HA Monitor automatically, all the items in the existing connection configuration file, except for comment lines, will be changed automatically.

If you have set HA Monitors to be terminated automatically, also confirm that HA Monitors are terminated automatically. When you shut down the OS, the KAMN056-I message is output to syslog.
